Re: Totally OT here ...

Brad:

For a limited time, (until next draw) you can see an example of how to not duff or slice... ...and yes, I "play" like Weir and Mickelson;).

Regards,
George:)

At the time of the picture, I was working on turning the ball over to get more roll on a draw... ...yes, it was a practice swing:agree:... ...I don't and haven't whiffed for more than a decade. That's for begginers.

Hurry up and win :cow:so you can get lessons;)... ...I've taught/helped many players... ...no, I'm not a teaching Pro... ...could be, I've done almost everything wrong at the start of learning to play well. This does help because I have a good idea what the student is going through while learning.

George:)

If I win the lottery, I'll buy myself some Pings or Taylor Mades. Think they'll make me a better golfer? :)

Right now I have Canadian Tire. :p:

No it won't:no:... ...you still need to learn how... ...hours and hours of practice... ...I've seen so many in my days with top of the line clubs because they could afford it and could not play well at all:rolleyes:.

For most, a good game = $5% clubs, $95% instruction... ...there is an old saying... ..."go get professional help"... ...not the kind where you lie on a couch and live at the "loonie bin".

George:)

Excerpt from Beaker's post:

***************

Because they have just as much chance as any other number??

Let's make it simple. Say you have 2 die ie dice. Do you bet a sum of 2 ie snake eyes 1-1 or do you bet a sum of 7. ie 1-6,2-5,3-4,4-3,5-2,6-1?

Play to win

***************

Probably for the first time I have to take exception to a post by Beaker. Comparing throwing dice to lottery games is like comparing apples to oranges, EXCEPT in Pick 3, 4, 5 and 6 games where duplicate numbers can occur. Throwing two dice has 36 possibilities, and a 2/6 lottery would have but 15 - 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, 1-6, 2-3, 2-4, 2-5, 2-6, 3-4, 3-5, 3-6, 4-5, 4-6 and 5-6. The sum of 7 argument retains its validity, although there are but 3 possibilities, not 6.

If duplicate numbers were permitted in a 6/49 game there would have to be six sets of 49 balls - or six separate drawings of one ball from a full set of 49. There would be 13,841,287,201 possibilities (NOT allowing for sorted duplicates), not 13,983,816. The lowest possible sum would be 6 (1-1-1-1-1-1), not 21 (1-2-3-4-5-6). The highest possible sum would be 294 (49-49-49-49-49-49), not 279 (44-45-46-47-48-49).

Given this, I'd have to go along with Brad's statement. Any set of six specific numbers has the same chance of being drawn as any other set, no matter how much analysis is done or how eerie it may seem to appear.

You are correct - bad example. I also completely agree with Brad's statement . My only intent was to give an example of the distribution of sums.
There is only one point on either side of the tails of the distribution of sums. But as GillesD has pointed out the most popular sum represents a small percentage of the total number of combinations. In fact, sum of line can be a very useful filter for 'filter' players.

I would never play either of those sets of numbers :no:but of course realize they could drop tomorrow.

Well put!:agree::agree2:

Powerball -

<snip>, but if you believe in quick picks only, then what the hell are you doing in a forum where the prediction of lottery numbers, the methods for doing so and the exchange of that information on that subject is the main theme and its raison d'etre?<snip>

Some people come here because they think think that's where all the jackpot winners hang out.
