Then there was the attempted assassination of a former US president; the constant shooting at US airplanes in the UN's no-fly zone; Saddam's international support for terrorism (he openly bragged about paying Palestinians to kill Israelis and Americans in Israel); his training Al Qaeda for 9/11 at Salman Pak. Even Clinton appointed federal judge Harold Baer awarded two 9/11 families $104 million in damages last year against the state of Iraq.
And since you don't deny Chretien's daughter and son-in-law's father being a large shareholders in France's TotalFinaElf oil company (a company that was in bed with Saddam), I am mystified why you would be proud of him for having his family take blood money from Saddam and allow Saddam to spit all over the world community.
And then there is this: "Along with other human rights organizations, The Documental Centre for Human Rights in Iraq has compiled documentation on over 600,000 civilian executions in Iraq. Human Rights Watch reports that in one operation alone, the Anfal, Saddam killed 100,000 Kurdish Iraqis. Another 500,000 are estimated to have died in Saddam's needless war with Iran. Coldly taken as a daily average for the 24 years of Saddam's reign, these numbers give us a horrifying picture of between 70 and 125 civilian deaths per day for every one of Saddam's 8,000-odd days in
power .
As for other countries not liking the USA, so what else is new? When you're on top, you're hated because people are jealous of you. If you would have visited the forums at the IIHF website during the World Hockey Championships, you'd have noted how hated Canada was by the other countries. Why? Because Canada is generally considered to be #1 in hockey.
Besides, you judge how well a country is liked by the number of people coming and leaving it. As everyone knows, many people flock to the US. Quite different from the nearly 15% who fled Iraq, isn't it?

Even Canada, despite having 1/9th the population of the USA, has 4 to 5 times more people leaving Canada to move to the USA, versus Americans coming to Canada to live. I believe the last time that more Americans came to live in Canada, than vice versa, was during the Vietnam War, when all the draft dodgers fled to Canada. I won't even bring up the number of Canadians who flock to the USA to get healed, because of Canada's hapless healthcare. Oops. I just did.
Another reason why many countries (with the exception of the 55 countries in the coalition) wanted Saddam in power was because they were being bribed by him. Here is the list of companies, individuals and the countries they are
from . You might notice the head of the UN's Oil for Food Program under Panama.
Speaking of the UN's Oil for Food Program, there is the little matter of the $10.1 billion they made while the Iraqis were being robbed and killed on a daily basis. No we know why they were in no hurry to get rid of him.
To the best of my knowledge, the only 2 major media who are on this story is the Wall Street Journal and Fox News. The liberal media has ignored it, or buried it on Page A14 in their papers. You must remember that the media is overwhelmingly liberal. This has been proven time and time again in polls and research studies. In 2000, 89 of the 96 Washington reporters who cover the White House voted liberal. You simply cannot trust the liberal media when it comes to reporting on a Conservative President. They will either outright lie, or put a spin on anything that makes look Bush look good, or a spin on anything that makes Kerry look bad.
Canada's media might even be worse. At least the US has a news station - Fox News - that presents another side. Canada has no such alternative.
Just look at how Canada's media hounded Harper. Instead of talking about national security (Al Qaeda names Canada #5 on its hit list), or tax cuts, the embarrassingly weak military, and Adscam, or why Martin broke his promise to get to the bottom of what went wrong regarding Adscam, before calling an election, the media ignored this, and hounded Harper about gay marriage and abortion.
But at least you didn't shout "NO BLOOD FOR OIL!"

Cheers!
