6/49 sorted out

Hopefull -

Please do not allow this post to put a damper on your hopes, wishes and posts, but when you compare a deck of cards to a lottery, you're talking apples and oranges.

In a standard 52-card deck there are something like the number 8 followed by 67 zeroes different ways of arranging that deck - this number approximates the number of atoms of matter in the Milky Way galaxy, of which the Sun and the Earth are but a part.

If you take the 13 cards of a suit, or, for that matter, any 13 cards, out of that deck, there are 6,227,020,800 different ways of arranging them.

Given that, the number 1 cannot appear anywhere in a list of sorted results in the 6/49 lottery drawings except in the #1 column, just as the number 49 cannot appear anywhere but in the #6 column. Using positional analysis, and my web pages will give you the listings on same, the most common numbers in each column in a 6/49 lottery will be 01/10/20/30/40/49. But that particular combination has as much chance of hitting as any other six-number combination of your choice.

also lexicographic value means nothing to me only the combination and its date do.
...
as for this part >{" there are 1,712,304 combinations starting with a 1, then 15,533.939 other ones starting with a 2 and down to a single combination starting with 44"}< I had posted them but you had said there was mistakes.but I had recounted them many times to come up with the same sum...
Maybe the word lexographic does not mean a thing to you but the concept should appeal to you and is very simple. Basically, the combination 1-2-3-4-5-6 has a lexographic value of one, then 1-2-3-4-5-7 a value of 2 and so on until you reach 44-45-46-47-48-49 with a value of 13,983,816. It justs put order in all combinations. And a formula can calculate this value in no time.

As far as wrong counting, I think you are referring to my post on the numbers of draws which is a resolved thing with me. You count some extra draws and I do not. Otherwise I am lost.

For Excel or other software (some free), well everything is not lost. You learned to use Internet didn't you?. If I were you, I would look into the possibility of learning it and using its basic functions. The time lost doing this will save you 1000 times the amount of time what you do manually.

you should not be neither be twisting my ideas nor take it out of its content.
my comparison is simply this.
13,983,816 = 51 when we are talking about the whole thing unbroken down to suites.
the deck has 4 suites,the 6/49 has 44.
each suite in a deck of cards has the same number of cards being 13,opposite the suites of the 6/49 the 1 has the most, while the 44 has the least.
in no way was I talking or even came close as a hint "different ways of arranging that deck"

while lexographic is very handy to people who know how to use Excel or macro or any other sort of a method, but it is not helpful to me in particular.
As far as wrong counting, this is what I was referring to > http://www.lotto649.ws/anything-goes/11900-6-49-count.html and not the extra combinations.
though the extra combinations are out of the way since we all think a 6 will not repeat any time in the near future.

Plane and other ways to look at lottery combinations

Sorry but I came up more confused than ever after reading the post mentioned. If it is clear to you, keep at it and good luck to you.

Here is the distribution I have for numbers in a 6/49 lottery. For each number (from 01 to 49), it lists how often the number shows up in each position (from P1 to P6). You may find the same information (but more clearly presented) on some internet sites (maybe johnph77).

01: 1,712,304 in P1 -- 0 in P2 -- 0 in P3 -- 0 in P4 -- 0 in P5 -- 0 in P6

49: 0 in P1 -- 0 in P2 -- 0 in P3 -- 0 in P4 -- 0 in P5 -- 1,712,304 in P6

Some information is obvious: no #1 in P2 or #49 in P5 and so on.
But if you add up numbers on a line, the total is always the same: 1,712,304.
And if you add up numbers per position, the total is always the same: 13,983,816.

Do we all think this? It depends on your definition of near future. Remember two things:
- Already the same combination (03-06-37-38-45-47) has shown up in Lotto 6/49 (draw #2046) and in Quebec 49 (draw #853).
- If about 35 unrelated people are in a room, you have more than 50% chances that two of them have the same birthday (day and month), even though you would think otherwise since a year has 365 days and there are only 35 people.

I am very glad my last post got you confused because if it was not for the confusion, I wouldn't have gotten a tiny part of what I am after.
01: 1,712,304 in P1.
Q:how many combination have we had already that started with 1 as a P1
Q:how many remains
Q:how many can we remove that we think their probability are almost 0
Q:how many lines would we have left after the cleaning?
these questions apply to all numbers as a P1
some of us are willing to take chances and I'm one of them.
meaning, I am all for reduction and condensation of the game.
thank you in advance.
hopefull.

Easy answers

When a question is clear, the answer is easy to come.

Q1 - After 2,630 draws, 319 winning combinations had the number 1 as its first number.
Q2 - This leaves 1,711,985 combinations yet to come out with number 1 as first number.
Q3 – The number of combinations that can be removed with an almost 0% probability of coming out: 0 as they all have the same probability of coming out: 1 in 13,983,816, considering or not the combinations starting with a 1
Q4 – The number of combinations staring with a 1 that could come out in the next draw: 1,712,304.

And by the way, you could have gotten the value of 1,712,304 a while back since I provided that information in post #38 in this thread.

If you look from the other end, i.e. combinations ending with number 49, then the answers are:

Q1 - After 2,630 draws, 326 winning combinations had the number 49 as its sixth number.
Q2 - This leaves 1,711,978 combinations yet to come out with number 49 as last number.
For Q3 and Q4, the same answers apply.

Oups and more information

My last post contains a small error: it should refer to a total of 2,629 draws instead of 2,630 but all other data is right.

Before somebody asks, I might as well provide the data for each number (01 to 49) in each position (P1 to P6) and the total number of appearances:

If you transfer the data from the first 7 columns into Excel and make a graph, it will show even better the distribution by position and number.

Things are going from bad to worse. For some reason, my Lotto 6/49 database got corrupted (one line with same entries as another one), so the table in the post above is not as exact as it should be.

So here is the right one (this time, I hope it is).

Here is the distribution I have for numbers in a 6/49 lottery. For each number (from 01 to 49), it lists how often the number shows up in each position (from P1 to P6). You may find the same information (but more clearly presented) on some internet sites (maybe johnph77).
Always a pleasure, GillesD:

I have no idea how to thank you both for this last post, especially johnph77
as for GillesD I'm going to put my full of cement hard hat on and start head butting with him for his hard head and being a tease.
Gentlemen,my self and many others out there are willing to take the chance.
as you both can see from this breakdown you both had posted last, you should conclude that any combination we choose,is NOT out of 13,983,816 but rather out of {let say we are choosing to play 1 as our P1 then it becomes out of 1712304 } also depending on our P2 then it shrinks even less and so on.
example 01 02 03 04 05 06 is not out of 13,983,816 but rather out of 990 .
I can also add that it is not even out of 990 but rather out of 44 because it is the very first line in the very first card.
so . this breaking down is exactly what I am after, but we need to take it much much further.
so according to the history we should be able to illiminate.
for example, how many times have we had the #6 as a P6?A:0 then remove it and so on.
thank you in advance.
hopefull being hope full.

One way of looking at it

Well, your approach is certainly interesting but let's look at it closely. I will only talk about winning the jackpot; otherwise it would take forever to finish this discussion.

OK, let's say you have chosen a combination with a 1 in it and you look in the paper for the results. So both your combination and the winning combination are now known but not by you. The first number you see is, OH MY GOD YES, a 1. OK now you can say that your chances are 1 out 1,712,304 to win the jackpot.

But let's look at another scenario: this time the first number you see is now anything but a one. You might as well throw away your ticket since you have exactly 0 chance out of 12,715,512 (the number of remaining combinations) of winning .

So overall, even before you open the paper, you have exactly 1 (1 + 0) chance out of 13,983,816 (1,712,304 + 12,715,512) of winning the jackpot.

And by the way, do not think either johnph77 or I came up with the data you find so marvelous. It has been around ever since a 6/49 lottery has been available.

Each and every number in a 6/49 matrix will appear 1,712,304 times when all possible draws are listed. I had posted in another thread here recently that if one were to be totally convinced that these numbers were the way to go, then the play would be 01-10-20-30-40-49, since these are the numbers that occur most frequently in each column. But the odds of that particular combination appearing in a given draw are still only 1::13,983,816.

If the first number of a 6/49 lottery draw is a number on your ticket you have just reduced the lottery matrix of your particular ticket to a 5/48 matrix, odds of which are the aforementioned 1::1,712,304. If the second number drawn is also on your ticket the matrix is then reduced to a 4/47 matrix, the odds of which are 1::178,365, and so on down the line until you have five winning numbers on your ticket with but one number left to draw. The matrix of the last number is then 1/44, and the odds of hitting that number is, of course, 1::44.

A lot of the confusion in trying to relate the math in a lottery to a devised system is the confusion of probability with possibility. Before anything like that is attempted, one needs to break out the math textbooks and become familiar with the different meanings of those terms. They are not the same, not interchangable.

ok. how many combination has been drawn out of the very first 15180 lines?
those lines start with 1 2 3 4 5 6
and end at 1 2 3 47 48 49
according to history,how many lines is there between our very first line which is 1 2 3 4 5 6 and our lowest one draw #883: 01 02 03 04 13 48
also according to history,how many lines is there between it "01 02 03 04 13 48" and the next one "01 02 03 19 25 41" and the next one "01 02 04 18 28 35"

are those 15180 lines worth betting money on?
if we break the 13,983,816 into suites we can find out on which cards do we get the most hits.

Couple of items to ponder here. Why confine your 15,180 picks to the extreme end? Pick any group of 15,180 combinations at random and check to see if any of those hit for 6/6. Or, better yet, one could go out and purchase that number of quick picks, if one has confidence in whatever randomness exists in that method.

But the bottom line here is, even with the relatively large number of draws already having occured in the lottery, that number is still statistically insignificant in relation to the number of total possibilities. Any variation which seems significant to one at this time will inevitably be dismissed by mathematicians as a statistical anomaly because of that reason. And anomalies do exist and will occur. There probably never will be enough draws in this lottery's history to be able to discern any significant statistical variations - ever.

you asked "Why confine your 15,180 picks to the extreme end?"

because I want to know on which leafs do we get the most hits, that is why.
and I am not restricting it to only the very first 15,180 lines but was going to ask for all other lines if I would have gotten an answer for this one.

Nice and regular combination

Interesting observation about the combination 1-10-20-30-40-49, johnph77. Besides having the numbers with the highest probability in each position (P1 to P6), it also shows a very nice and regular pattern with both the lowest and the highest numbers but also all 4 numbers ending with a 0 (10-20-30-40).

Looking for this combination in Canadian Lotto 6/49, Quebec 49 and UK 49 lotteries (5,215 draws altogether), it has yet to show up, the best result being in draw #2109 for Lotto 6/49 with 5 of the 6 numbers (1-10-18-20-30-40). But it is quite possible that it has come out in a 6/49 lottery somewhere.

I never had thought at looking at this characteristics on the whole set of combinations but I have a spreadsheet that calculates the minimal range covering a given percentage of results for each position, based on past draws. For Lotto 6/49, in P2 all results range from 02 to 43 with slightly over 90% in the range 03-26.

So using the table already posted for each position, I calculated the minimal range that covers at least 90% of the possibilities (or 12,585,434 combinations). For each position, the range obtained is:
- for P1, from 01 to 15;
- for P2, from 03 to 25;
- for P3, from 08 to 34;
- for P4, from 16 to 42;
- for P5, from 25 to 47;
- for P6, from 35 to 49.

Going through all combinations of a 6/49 lottery, I found 8,892,704 combinations (or 63.6%) with each number within the given range for each position.

Limited answers

Hopeful, I will provide the lexographic value for a few combinations but do not expect me to provide this information for all draws.

Combination......................Value
01-02-03-04-13-48..............359 (the lowest one)
01-02-03-19-25-41..........10,836
01-02-04-18-28-35..........24.651
38-43-44-45-46-47....13,983,334 (the highest one)

The formula to calculate the lexographic value can be found on this site, but since you are more a manual guy, I would suggest you go through all combinations and assign a lexographic value to each one. This should be quite useful to you once you get this information.

in other words, the bulk of the game falls between 24.651 and 13,983,334
what are the next 3 or 4 highest lines that are smaller than 38-43-44-45-46-47
also which pages have the most bulk?
please gentlemen,do see what I'm seeing.
