I've always done research first - look at various machines, write down payouts for the games offered and such. Since my laptop computer is never far away (back in the room) and the software is on it to do the payout percentages I can calculate which game is likely to offer the best payout percentage when played over the longer term. That's the game I'll play. In a few instances I've found machines set for a payout percentage of over 100% for a particular game (not the entire machine) and that's where I'll camp and that's the game I'll play.

As far as particular numbers, though, or even a system for picking particular numbers I don't have much help.

Out of curiosity what software do you use?

I use Lotus 123 but the spreadsheet is easily convertible to Excel. I developed the formulas for instant calculation of payout percentages.

johnph77,

According to your research which games offer the best payments over the longer term in the USA of any other country that you play?

That sort of question always puts me in a corner. There are several states which offer a 60% payout percentage on their Pick 3 and Pick 4 games (IA and KY, for instance); most hover around the 48%-50% range. A lot of games have pari-mutuel payouts, and the payout percentages for those are set by state law. Most states' largest games offer variable jackpots, and the payout percentage for those games is dependent on the size of the jackpot.

But, if I had to pick one game in the U.S., and one game only, it would be MA's Cash Winfall. With the base jackpot, the game has a payout percentage of 59.51%, and rollovers will increase that.

The best consistent payout percentages on any game I've researched so far, though, have to be the Western Canada and BC 6/49 games. With identical payout structures they offer a payout percentage of 65.38%.

Hi John, just curious if you based your calc on the old structure of BC49 or if you allowed for last year (June) changes.
I noticed your site's stats have it now listed at $1.00/ticket (up from 50c) which is correct, but you still display the old prize payout.

TY for your input. I'm in the process of doing an update to the page - it's taking too long but there's such a thing as "work" getting in the way - and when I reach that point I'll notify you. Appreciate your time.

Did BC49 with the new payout table - payout percentage is now 49.94%. I'll get a new table there ASAP - thanks again.

Western49 is still the same.

No prob John,

I can appreciate that work gets in the way of fun sometimes ;) ... and thanks for quantifying the change for me.

Note to ComboManiac:

John's stats show exactly what we talked about a while ago. Didn't have the numbers handy then but now it's clear how much the BC49 payout percentage dropped, from 65.4 to 49.9 .

Cheers to both
