UK stats required

For anyone who maintains a UK 6/49 database. Is it possible you could post the 'number of repeat combinations' over history for 3, 4 and 5? If it's not too much trouble, also the same data please for the last 500 & last 150 draws. (NB. I not looking for the actual combinations just the number of draws where this occurred).

Any help humbly appreciated. TIA

I maintain a database for the UK 6/49 lottery and I could plug past results into my Excel spreadsheets calculating various information on drawn combinations.

What do you mean exactly by "number of repeat combinations over history for 3, 4 and 5"? For me, it could mean two things:
A - how many combinations had 3, 4 or 5 numbers repeating in the next draw;
B - how many times some specific 3, 4 or 5 number combinations have come out.

I don't think it's A or B. I require the total number of draws that contained combinations that repeated over various periods.
Example1 x no of draws contain quads that have repeated over the history of the lotto.
Example 2 x no of draws (out of the last 500 draws) contain quads that have repeated over the last 500 draws.
Does that make more sense??

I am very happy that you could get such impressive sets of data in some very short time. My methods are certainly much slower and unreliable.

In many cases, I had could not duplicate some of your data. I will give you one example and you can tell me where I went wrong.

I found the triad 10-34-48 in 9 draws altogether but these numbers did not make your list of triads coming out 7 times. Could you look for me if this triad can actually be found in winning numbers for draws #078, 101, 312, 361, 675, 686, 720, 735 and 790?

Gilles, yes your right it has hit 9 times, and i had asked the Gail software people of this in the past and they say that if the same triad hits in a higher set like a quad, quint or six then it doesn''t show up as a hit in those instances in the triads, ie they did it by design and i also complained that i would like to see it listed as triads or pairs etc but they make the software and i don't, so if you look at the list, you will see that it hit 5 times in the triads and it is also in the quads and quints list !!

I understand your point but when data is presented the way you did it “coming from Gail Howard's program” (such a well known program), I expect to be able to rely on the data as presented, without having to consult the fine print in a manual that I do not have or question the maker of the software.

But even if I accept your explanation for the triads, then I do not understand the data on pairs. For the 6 most occurring pairs (38-46, 25-30, 01-38, 08-10, 25-32, 38-47), I get exactly the same number of occurrences as you. From what you said, I would have expected different values, as these pairs of numbers certainly occurred in triads, quads, etc. and logically their occurences should not have been counted in the data on pairs.

Is it a different rule whether you are a pair or a triad? And what rule apply if you are a quad? To me, when I look for the occurrences of a triad (let’s say 1-2-3), I do not want to have to look for occurrences in quads, quints and so on, to get the proper data.

I think the information you provided looks great but is useless as such, unless you happen to know how the software works. And I am not sure that even users of Gail Howard's program know about this particularity. I would suggest that you ask LT to remove your posts so people are not mislead by reading the data.

Gilles, the pairs obviously aren't counted the same as the triads and higher and this Gail Howard way of counting triads etc has been discussed here before:

and i did get an email verification from the software programmers that the data is accurate and correct as per the way the program was desgined. Hence i WILL NOT remove it, if LT want's to remove it's up to his discretion.

Actually the user SHT should probably buy the program or another for themselevs to check and play with or they can use Nick's Lottostat which also does pairs, triads etc and does them very well and very fast too

Also it's not stoping you from supplying this user with your list as well here. The more the better right Goodluck and i hope you and me too win the Big Money, SHT also

Thanks for the information, Charles2 & GillesD. Very interesting discussion about Gail Howards software's presentation of data. I would have ended up scratching my head when I started comparing Charles2's data with the statistics I was getting so far. I'll check what you're posted is what I'm looking for, and let you know shortly.

Looking at data

Yes quite an interesting discussion.

To a simple question, like how many times the triad 28-38-47 did come out in the first 970 draws of the UK Lottery, looking quickly at the charles2's posts, we have two choices: 7 or 8 times.

That's the good thing about statistics, you can make them say whatever you want. This is especially true if you do not indicate the assumptions you make in the calculations. In this case, GH defines a triad as 3 numbers occuring in a draw only as a triad and not as part of a quad, quit, etc. But a pair is is defined as 2 numbers occuring in a draw whether in a pair, a triad, etc. What a nice way to complicate things.

As a matter of fact, I would say that the true answer for the occurences of 28-38-47 is 6 times. YES only 6 times, but I will add that the bonus number was NOT considered in this analysis.
