This is what I received in my email inbox this morning-I copy pasted from the previous thread:
Oh I just had to share this...

Dear mirage,

makefreedom has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - man giving away 50% of his potential winnings!!!! - in the Anything Goes forum of Lotto 649 Lottery Forums.

This thread is located at:

Here is the message that has just been posted:

Hello,

I have checked out many lotteries software to come up a winner more often. After testing many systems, if you catch the numbers within any system, you will do great but that's not as easy as it sounds. It depends on how much you want to spend on tickets that might produce good outcome compare to what you will win.

I am checking out the site that you have recommended (the 50/50), I think it's a joke.

Want something interesting that I do and I love it!

Check out my site: <deleted>

Wishing all the best and much luck!

makefreedom

Do you see a post in the previous thread man giving away 50 percent of his winnings? I don't see a post... How did this person get my email anyway? What do you think people?

Hmmm ... that one is weird. Someone who knows your email and who knows you're a member here could have done this. If you can think back to anyone you connected with here in the past the trail starts there. One can only guess as to what their motive was.

I can think of no other explanation ... but maybe LT will have more input.

No one I connected with related to this board has my email. (Well actually they have the email and my user ID but other than this forum here I did not voluntarily give it to them...) The other weird thing is that the sender used the same email as the contact email address for this BB. I can't imagine LT... ?

Using a key word from the mail content you posted I Google-found the 'offender' ... his initials are J.K. if I'm correct? If so, he advertises his 'opportunity' all over, mainly on trash BB's and such, with a typical come-on promising great riches without much effort (he probably tried here before and got turfed pronto when the guard Cat sniffed him out, hehehe). He spouts a lot without ever revealing anything about how it works ... that comes after the 'suckers' sign on with him, apparently, LOL. How many like him have we seen already?

How he got your addy is the unknown ... but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, just set your e-mail spam filter to stun ;)

Thanks for that 'snooper sniffing' job. Confirming J.K. as a yes, correct.
I thought at best I'd be throwing my good money away, (tho' sure wouldn't be the first time, lol!) at worst I might be putting myself vulnerable to ID theft and/or who knows what else. But why target me directly? How did he get my email (not addy, just my humble personal email) unless he's in with someone who 'seems' normal (or was formerly a 'normal' person on this BB, a way, way, way back... ?:hair: ) And what also gets me is how the email was able to fake looking like it was sent as an alert from this BB, the 'Lotto 649 Forums', including the same (I've just rechecked and yes it is exactly the same  ) email address? Can you comment on how he was able to do that? So therefore, re your spam stunner suggestion, I don't want to set my spam detector to screen out alerts from this BB...

While we listen to the theme music of the Twilight Zone I'll explain what happened with the voice of Rod Serling. :)

Thanks for contacting me re this mirage as it relates to an overall function of the forums as well as the removal of spam ads.

Yesterday, a member registered as "makefreedom". They made 8 posts all similar to the one mirage has posted here after receiving the same post in an email sent from "Lotto 649 Lottery Forums", mirage went to check out this weird situation and could not find the post on the forums and was naturally asking what the heck is happening here? mirage then contacted me and posted the ad after deleting the spam link which was to a freebie tripod address - thanks mirage.

Prior to receiving mirage's email re the post I was on the forums and saw the 8 ads and deleted the spam so when mirage went to find the post it was already gone into the land of the deleted. Usually I'm not that fast. Brad or other members here are always super diligent in emailing a spam alert to me and then i delete the posts. - much eternal appreciation to Brad and the other members.

Why did mirage get the email with the post in it in the first place? Is the spam post sent from Lotto 649 Lottery Forums? Does the spammer have mirages email?

mirage, you got the email with the ad post because one of the 8 particular threads that the spam was posted to - you/mirage are "subscribed' to. you/mirage are to be notified by email each and every time someone posts in that particular thread. This email DOES come from Lotto 649 Lottery Forums and it will contain the contents of the new post and several links such as a link to the thread "This thread is located at:" and other links to unsubscribe "Unsubscription information:"

The forums are based upon a very sophisticated machine that is set to email these notices out to members that want to monitor the posts of a thread. Lotto 649 Lottery Forums also sends out Happy Birthday Wishes in an email to all members on their birthday. All of these functions can be turned on or off by members in their personal control panels. ie "To unsubscribe from ALL threads, please visit this page:"

The spammer does NOT have mirage's email addy but the forums robot does.

This brings up the issue of auto notices for members who are "subscribed" to a thread. Maybe I should delete that option to avoid confusion? I think the birthday greeting and well wishes once a year is nice?

This was like everything in Life - all a question of actions and timing. ;)

Ah yes, the good ol' Bot thingy doing its job, just hasn't got the AI to spot the bad replies ... good thing Mirage didn't use her tazer to fry it though  :D . So there you have it folks, goes to show that one's never too old to learn a new trick ... no use pretending I twigged to the details on that process ;).

Btw Mirage, by addy I meant your personal e-mail address, just didn't express myself clearly. So it looks like no harm was done and J.K. is no wiser ... LT runs a tight ship here minimizing the spam in-leakage :agree:

Cheers
