Oversight or Scam ( maybe too strong of a word )?

Below is the odds of winning the prizes paid out in
Can. Lotto 649 as I'm sure all of you have seen.

My question is ; What payout should happen with the following
fictitious draw.

Winning Numbers
1,2,3,4,5,6 bonus 7

Ticket purchased has the following numbes
4,5,6,7,8,9

Under the OLGC rules the payout is $10.00 for having
4,5,6 - 3 numbers-
But the ticket also contains 3 sets of 2 numbers plus the bonus!

4,5,7 $5.00
5,6,7 $5.00
4,6,7 $5.00
Total of $15.00 !!!

The odds of having 2/6 + bonus is greater than 3/6 but the payout is lower!

I know the Lotto is designed to make money but this seems to be insulting to the general public!
This kind of payout is also happening id S7.

Number of
Matches Win Odds of Winning
(approximate)
6/6 80.5 % of the Pool's Fund 1 in 13,983,816
5/6 + Bonus 5.75 % of the Pool's Fund 1 in 2,330,636
5/6 4.75 % of the Pool's Fund 1 in 55,492
4/6 9 % of the Pool's Fund 1 in 1,033
3/6 $10 prize 1 in 57
2/6 + Bonus $5 prize 1 in 81*NEW*
Any prize 1 in 32

Just wondering why they did this ???

You're half joking ... right?

Hmmm ... I'd say 1 ticket line = 1 prize so take the highest, in your example that would be 10 bucks, end of story ... although I'm sure the OLGC would gladly pay you the lower tier instead should you be willing to accept it ;) .

Now as far as the odds/payouts of 2+B hits vs 3 hits go, that is a slap in the face. We've talked about that bfr and no one had an answer that I saw. Could try e-mailing OLGC and see if their answer will make sense :notme:

Generally, you would be entitled to the highest possible payout on your ticket, and that one payout only. This is usually spelled out in the game rules.

If for instance you were to hit all the numbers on a 6/49 ticket (not including any bonus ball), you would have hit the 5 of 6 payout 6 times, the 4 of 6 payout 15 times and the 3 of 6 payout (if any) 20 times. And that just doesn't happen.

when they changed the ticket price to $2 they should have doubled all the prizes as well not just the jackpot and give out that slap-in-the-face 2+b !

Always look for the bottom line ...

Right on, Charles!!:agree: But would that not cut into their corporate profits? ...

$10 only  from your example - no oversight there.

As johnph77 said, you are entitled to the largest prize hit - one hit/ticket. You don't get to 'wheel' your tickets for extra prizes - not in this game

They gave us that extra 2+B but the slap was really hard... And I agree with you Charles they should have increased all prizes...

Well, the actual win for a 2 + B is not $5 but $3, since a line costs $2. And also since the actual win for a 3 is $8, it would be good to do some math and see if the $1 prize reduction for these 3 number prizes actually covers 2 + B ones, because of the significantly higher odds........which means since the all non -winning more expensive tickets may make a nice additional profit the word "extra" regarding 2 + B prizes might be questionable...

However, in my opinion $2/ticket is a way too much for an average lottery fan, since I’m not sure if someone may expect any significant wins playing a few tickets only….
