noticed this at work at our lottery terminal, the prizing breakdown for super 7 will be changing Jan 20th

The breakdown cannot be found on their website like the printout says, but if you goto your local retailer you'll be able to get a copy of the new prize breakdown. ONE big change was 60% of the pools fund for the jackpot prize increased to 73% :O! the second, third and fourth place prizes will be decreased in value though :(

just a heads up!

Not bad. From WCLC's site:
This will allow for continuation of the popular $2.5 Million - $5.0 Million - $10 Million - $12 Million - $15 Million 'guaranteed' Jackpot roll pattern introduced last summer. This roll pattern (which eliminated the $7.5 Million Jackpot level and guaranteed the first five Jackpot amounts) allows the SUPER 7 Top Prize to grow more quickly until it is won.
I was expecting bigger jackpots like with Lotto 6/49; doesn't seem like it'll affect much until after $15 million.
Would be nice if we could play it twice a week, say, Tuesday / Friday.

For comparison, here's the old pricing structure:

7 of 7 Share of 60% of Pools Fund* 1: 20,963,833
6 of 7 + Bonus Share of 8% of Pools Fund* 1: 2,994,883
6 of 7 Share of 7% of Pools Fund* 1: 76,791
5 of 7 Share of 25% of Pools Fund* 1: 1,280
4 of 7 $10 * 1: 60.6
3 of 7 + Bonus $10 * 1: 65.5
3 of 7 Free Play(Three Quick Pick Selections) 1: 7.3

And the new one:

7 of 7 Share of 73% of Pools Fund* 1: 20,963,833
6 of 7 + Bonus Share of 5% of Pools Fund* 1: 2,994,833
6 of 7 Share of 5% of Pools Fund* 1: 76,791
5 of 7 Share of 17% of Pools Fund* 1: 1,280
4 of 7 $10 * 1: 60.6
3 of 7 + Bonus $10 * 1: 65.5
3 of 7 Free Play(Three Quick Pick Selections) 1: 7.3

I know how you feel, my MWF are typically busy but on Tue/Thu this semester I only have one class from 8:30-9:45, I can go home and sleep after. :)

those are the odds of winning that prize

so your chances of winning the 7/7 numbers matched jackpot would be ; 1 in 20,963,833

Should add that those are the odds per $2 ticket (play) which buys 3 lines (selections).

Looks like WCLC still advertises the old 'misleading' odds figure,
others like BCLC express the odds as:

7/7 _ one in 63M per selection, one in 21M per play
6/7+ one in 9M per selection, one in 3M per play
etc. ...

hojimoe you have the terminology right, and thanks, brad....

the ODDS of any seven numbers being drawn in a group out of a group of 47 are the 63-odd million brad mentions......the CHANCES of winning when buying three groups of numbers, are the 21-odd milliion which hojimoe refers to, and which the lottery corporations enjoy touting as a marketing device.......were one to buy 63-odd million tickets, provided no two were alike, the ODDS would still remain at some 63-odd million per seven numbers chosen, while at the same time, the CHANCE one would win was now reduced to a certainty....

thanks for the update on the new prize structure, i had not noticed it in the general literature.....

Thanks guys and gals - talk about being on the ball with changes fast :agree:

Here is some more info

Changes to Lotto Super 7 effective 20 Jan 2006
There are new changes to how payout amounts are determined for Lotto Super 7 and this information does not seem to have a lot of exposure from the provncial lottery corporations. The changes will mean lower payouts for lower prize categories but will also mean larger jackpots more often. These changes do not change the odds of winning in any category.

According to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (who is responsible for lotteries in the province of Ontario):

LOTTO SUPER 7 continues to improve to deliver on players' demands for big, fast-growing Jackpots. More of the prize money is being devoted to the LOTTO SUPER 7 Jackpot to help ensure that the Jackpot always grows quickly until it's won. A larger allocation of the Pools Fund is now being directed to the Jackpot by reducing the allocations to the 6/7+, 6/7 and 5/7 categories. The overall payout on the game remains unchanged at 45%.

Here's how the allocation of the LOTTO SUPER 7 prize pool has changed to support the Jackpots:

The Jackpot prize category now receives 73% of the prize pool, an increase of the 60% share that has been in place since the game began over 10 years ago.
The second prize category (6 numbers of 7 plus bonus) now receives 5% of the prize pool (down from 8%).
The third prize category (6 numbers of 7) now receives 5% of the prize pool (down from 7%).
The fourth prize category (5 numbers of 7) now receives 17% of the prize pool (down from 25%).
45% of LOTTO SUPER 7 tickets sales still goes to prizes. The prize pool is the prize money available for the larger parimutuel prizes after the $10 and free tickets have been paid.
