Least picked Combination - Challenge

Yeah I am posting a lot hoping to get some brains going maybe getting some new ideas.

Ok here is the challenge, Find a combination of 6 numbers that has won the least amount of prizes since 649 has started here in Canada.
(maybe someone has software that has all ready done this but I have just been using a lotto database.)

Here is what I have so far

4 9 17 26 41 43
Has won
2+B / 6 - 4 Times
3 / 6 - 0 Times
4 / 6 - 0 Times
5 / 6 - 0 Times
6 / 6 - 0 Times
Last win November 17, 2004
Can anyone find, or know of any combinations that have won less???
Post some even if it's slightly more.

Re-check your history database

Even with a Lotto649 history which has not been updated since game 2238 (07/02/05) I show more prizes won than you indicate with 4 9 17 26 41 43 :

2+B/6 - 35 Times
__3/6 - 49 Times
__4/6 - 05 Times

Looks like your d-base has errors ... :notme:

Well this is interesting, I checked those numbers 3 times using the database at
http://www.lotterycanada.com/lottery/
and what I wrote down is what it showed me.

But now I check it and get something similar to what you have

4/6 - 3 times
3/6 - 48 times
2+B/6 - 4 times

this is kinda weird, as soon as you mentioned the difference it changed at that site.

Well I guess this is open to a lot more combinations that can be lower now.

Thx guys, wish I was not wrong but hey.
Anyways. PAB are you using an excel database or some software.
If using software do you have a way to list combinations that have been the least picked. I just have some things I want to experiment with.

Hi kosteczki,

I have an Excel Database I Use Containing ALL the Draws.
For this Instance I Used Formulas to Work Out the Matches for the Combination you Stated.
There are of Course, as at Draw 2,252 ( Saturday the 20th of August 2005 ), Still 13,981,564 Combinations Yet to be Drawn.
Could you give us a Little More Information by what you Mean when you Say Combinations that have Been the Least Picked Please. Also, are the Experiments that you want to Perform on these Combinations to do with Applying Different Filters Or Something.

All the Best.

As soon as I have completed entering my database in an excel sheet I was going to start checking to see what the previous results where of combinations drawn.

For example last winning combo only had 4/6 as the highest previous payout. Hopefully eliminating combinations that have had higher and more payouts would help in shortening the amount of choices I have for combinations being used.

HOPEFULLY heh

To add to this I would also be choosing combinations that have had very little prize payouts as combinations to keep in future eliminations.

BTW how did you get those results in excel..what formula did you use?

Assuming that your 6 Main Drawn Numbers are in Cells "E6:J6", and the Bonus Number is in Cell "K6" for Example.
Insert the Combination you want to Check in Cells "M4:R4".
Copy & Paste the Following Formula into Cell "M6".
Copy the Formula Down as Far as Needed.

The Formula is :-
=IF(SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF($M$4:$R$4,$E6:$J6))=2,IF(SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF($M$4:$R$4,$K6))=1,"2+","2"),SUMPRODUCT(COUNTIF($M$4:$R$4,$E6:$J6)))

Hope this Helps.
All the Best.

I don't know how good the database at LotteryCanada is cuz I've never used it bfr. Many players here go to BCLC.com which is deemed to have a very accurate record of all draws, available for download from their site in a CSV format. See HERE , near bottom of page.

The numbers I posted earlier were obtained using Gail Howard's prog, which does occasionally have 1 or 2 typos (until I e-mail Joe with the correct info, LOL) ... this may explain my 2+B/6 discrepancy vs PAB's stats. Therefore I would accept PAB's as more correct ;) .

Now regarding the quick stats change at LotteryCanada ... maybe they read this BB? :D

Cheers

PS I do not actively indulge in Lotto649, however I do update my stats for it every so often ...

Thx Brad I have been entering all the draws into an excell sheet from the printed version I got from the lotto corp. This has saved me soo much time.

Thx for the formula PAB, I changed them a bit to suit my needs and they still worked.

You wouldn't happen to know how I can calculate the occurance of let's say the digit 1 in cells I2 - I2252, then I would see the occurance of the digit 2, 3, 4, 5

anyways thx again

Hi kosteczki ,

I am Glad the Previous Formula Achieved the Results you Wanted.
As Far as …

kosteczki said:

… is Concerned, the Formulas Below ( Change Accordingly ) will give you the Total Matched Occurrences of 0, 1, 2, 2+, 3, 4, 5, & 6.

Here they are :-

=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,0)
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,1)
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,2)
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,"2+")
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,3)
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,4)
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,5)
=COUNTIF(I$2:I$2252,6)

You will Probably Need to Use an End Range in Excess of 2252 to Allow for the Entry of Future Draws.

Hope this Helps.
All the Best.

I feel dumb, I figured out that formula right after asking for it, but I went to bed instead of replying to you to forget about it.

Anyways as for entering the larger range as long as you right click and INSERT a row pusing the cells down, the formula automatically adjusts to include the new row.

Thank you PAB

Exactly Correct. I did Not Know how Conversant you were with Excel, so I did Not want to Complicate things.

Glad Everything is going According to Plan.

Thank you.
I do work with excell on quite a regular basis at work, but 99% of the time I am repeating formulas I figured out months ago, so it takes a while to get the hang of new ones.
But I should be good now..at least for this part of my experiment.
