In the UK APril first is all fool's day and the newspapers carry all sorts of daft stories that defy belief. Is this one of them ?

hiya Frank, likewise I was suspicious, but I think the story is legit.

I've seen hokey lottery stories in the past, where winners bought multiple pick3/pick4 tickets with the same numbers...triples or quads and actually win heh!

likewise some serious gamblers dump the bulk of their winnings back in...I am suspicious about the claim that he bought "a lottery scratcher" and won, more likely required a pile of them!

who knows...take it easy!

I see the story is covered by other publications, some of which are dated earlier than April 1st, so it's genuine. Still unbelievable though. :look:

They needed the second win to pay the taxes on the first win!

What scares me is that the winner says "We're not finished yet!" Odds are they are finished and could spend the $2 million "chasing the dragon" so to speak.

I wish them good luck!

*LMAO* hiya Icewynd, yup damn taxman...I wonder how they will feel about paying higher taxes under Obama:finger:"The Man" may be keepin 'em down:rolling:

anyway, as usual an incomplete lottery story...how often do they play? how much per session? were they ahead of the lottery games prior to their big wins? etc.

In Canada, 0% tax on lottery winnings since:
a. you bought the ticket with after-tax money, and
b. the government already took 50% of the ticket price for themselves.

Anything more is just GREEDY! :dang:

Good luck,

Hey Ice...

a. So if you buy a ticket for a 1 euro, you bet 0.80 euro?
b. If the jackpot is 1m you are going to collect 1m?

Greedy it's the system that we leave... unfortunatly...
99% of all the money of the world it's been hold from the 1% of the total population of the earth...
That's greedy man...

a. National Lotto 6/49 tickets cost $3 -- $1.50 goes into the prize pool and $1.50 goes into government coffers.

b. Yes! If JP is $1M you get to collect $1M -- no taxes, no fees, its all for you!

But remember -- First you have to earn the money to buy the ticket -- probably $6 or $7 dollars of earnings before taxes to buy a $3 lottery ticket.

So the government ends up getting, say, $3.50 in income taxes plus $1.50 of the ticket price, so $5 of your $6 or $7 hard-earned $$$.

Good luck!
