im not sure if you can read it but its says international promotions prize awards. hotline lottery is pleased to notify you are a winner in our promotional prize sweepstakes % lottery program,,so on and so on in order to claim your prize you will need to pay a fee of which the calculated amount is $2,890.00 .enclosed is a check payable to you in the abobe amount please before cashing this check you have to call us to confirm that you have received this letter and enclosed check. an amount of 10 % will be deducted from the cash prize to repay the fees.the check is a real check,so im alittle baffled, the total amount won is $200,000 has anyone had this kind of check sent to them too,it would be nice if it were for real, but deep down i dont think it is,just for the heck of it im going to take it to the bank tomorrow and ask them about it.thanks all..tee

It's a criminal scam ... don't even think, not even for a second, about sending them any money, you'll lose it all ... and these crooks may even try to clean out your account if they get a hold of the number.
Report it to the RCMP.

Search for the link in these Forums ... or just google it. If you can't locate it I'll look for it later when I have time.

instead of bringing it to the bank, i would walk in to your nearest rcmp office and ask what they think.sounds like you have a real cheque? if its a fake they might know and if they dont i am willing to bet this is how it goes. you deposit the cheque at your bank. they tell you it has a five day hold to confirm the funds. meanwhile, you have sent the same amount in fees to this company. then when you dont get your money, you go to the bank and find out the cheque you depsited has bounced. anyway i think the states take 30% or something in taxes, so i would think they would want more money. and i dont think it would ever be in advance. i think they would just send you a cheque for 130000$ or something, no strings attached. i suppose you could just deposit the cheque without contacting these guys,(thats where they ll convince you that you need to send money now so you dont miss the deadline) but i can almost guarantee it will bounce.

what is rcmp office
Where are you from, Teena? I'm just curious.

Btw, RCMP = Royal Canadian Mounted Police, see the link I gave you for their site in post #4. You can contact them on-line if you wish, email a copy of the letter, I'm sure they'd like to do a 'follow-up' on who ever is perpetrating this bogus venture.

Or go to your local police/authorities <-- they may want to know as well if that 'letter' is being circulated in your community since others near by could become victims.

Just so you know, the address on the letter that you showed us is probably a warehouse or like right next to the runway in Nelson, there are no 'lotto' offices there to my knowledge ... branch or otherwise (maybe you noticed that I am from BC, have been to that airport/area a few times).

See for yourself: 1841 Lakeside Dr. Nelson BC <-- when the map opens click on 'Hybrid' and zoom in.
If the # '1841' is on the North side of the street as I think it is, there are no buildings there at all ... so I can only assume the originator of the letter must reside in a rat hole or something ;).

Cheers

I agree with Brad, it's a criminal scam. I never believe these things, someone give you money for free. And no one will charge you any proceesing fee to get the prize if they don't have any evil intent to entrap you into their swindle. It's too good to be ture, and definitely hidden risk follows.
