Just goes to show ya, God works in mysterious ways. ;)

I do feel sorry for those people down there with being plummeted the way they have been in recent weeks.

On a more serious note, my sister is a senior staff member working in a popular downtown bookstore in Toronto. Part of her job is to be cognizant of cultural and political shifts. She says American tourists are amazed at the cultural and politically oriented books available in Canada that are either unavailable or forever on back order in the U.S. (i.e., at Barnes and Noble, large U.S. chain) and which mysteriously never become available. A large number of U.S. visitors are asking about immigration to Canada. She says questions about immigration are so common that the staff at the book store have the blue pages of the phone book marked for easy opening. The word on the street is that the U.S. has never been so internally polarized (although the official media might dispute this). In New York (especially NYC), even in Washington DC, the populace is overwhelmingly supportive of the Democrats.
However, since she works at a book store, perhaps the Americans she encounters are those who either read and think, or in a position to have first hand knowledge.

Don't usually do this but I'm willing to predict that Bush and his cronies will get turfed out and there will not be a recount this time around, no need to examine pregnant chads.
I'll even stick my neck out and predict that there will be a record voter turn out, not the usual 50% or so ... it will happen despite the wimpy US media coverage IMO.

Ok, if you're a gambling type ;), bets are on. I bet you Bush doesn't get turfed out. :D

Not only that but.... did you know? In many States the electronic voting machines are owned by....... Republicans!!! :p:
Which are prone to glitches and which are being allowed by officials without any attention to any kind of paper trail security system! This is common knowledge if you look for it.

So, it's a bet!

However, ...there is the big debate though, in, as I write this, 48 hours aprox. Can't imagine Bush doing well in this against Kerry, as he will have to think on his feet a bit. But I've noticed that he seems to have taken acting lessons recently, to give some sparkle to his public image, as was demonstrated in the Republican nomination speech. As well as he will have his cue cards, or electronic version of same, that he will simply be able to read and with which he can hammer away at American insecurity buttons. :uzi:

But we'll see! :D

Yeah, those guys are up the their old tricks all over it seems. Read a couple of interesting articles recently, one of them by Jimmy Carter, about the state of the voting process in the US. It's ironic that they are more than willing to ensure/supervise fair voting in other countries yet their system is in such a disarray ... nufced

Don't know about US supervised voting in other countries.

News today polls (ABC), for what they're worth, say Kerry clear winner in last night's debate 45% to 36% (with I guess the rest undecided). Kerry did appear head and shoulders in presence and content above little George W. The race is getting tighter. Who knows, you may be right. But I still think Bush will narrowly squeak through. :worry:
... Bets still on (?)

A "lame duck in disguise" indeed.... More like a duck decoy.

However, Polls today on CTV are broadcasting post debate a lead for Kerry over Bush by 47% to 45%. Will it last? Do debates even matter?
Reviewed biographies of some of Kerry's closest partners in this race. These people are just too darned nice, and ... kind-hearted, and ... liberal, to lead the world's sole remaining superpower. They appear to have values like the flower children offering daisies in response to uzzi machine-gun toting blue meanies.
And why did it take a debate on national television to finally wake people up to some extremely obvious truths?

Hate to mention this, but if Kerry does indeed win, he'll be a lightening rod for some very irrational and violent people. He might even be a latter day Abe Lincoln.

Bets still on to save Kerry from some awful fate.

Btw, my chug of choice is Moosehead. Do you have that brand in BC?

Yes we do Mirage. Now you got me thinking that it would be hard to wrap ... you know, antlers and all ... I still feel you'll be the one sending the sudsy :D.

Btw, I don't have a special pref for Kerry, I think he can follow a script just as well as other politicians. Can't say I put too much stock in debates and polls either cuz they mainly seem to provide fodder for the media and help feed the herds of so-called analysts who spring outa the woodwork during elections. The ones to watch will be the ppl who don't normally get polled and who don't usually care to vote I think … their help is needed in turfing out GWD of WMD fame.

We could discuss this till the cows come home and I'm sure other armchair analysts would like to join in too. But it's difficult for me to detail here why I have a gut feeling about this ... and this gut prefers Pilsner Urquel :dizzy:

PS I think there's a lot going on behind the scenes on the old www which was not really as pervasive in previous elections ... just another hunch

The ppl may turn out in force, but remember U.S. citizens are not Canadians, and do not share our views in many respects. The www has had impact to be sure, and has been a powerful source for sharing of ideas and freedom. The incumbent President is rarely defeated but even if it looks like there will be an upset there is the possibility of a **** , which I won't even name as it is a four letter word.

You're right Mirage, it's anybody's guess at the moment but I'd hate to think that we're back to this old slogan from 3 decades ago " Don't change Dicks int the middle of a scr*w, vote for Nixon in '72" ;)

I'd change the above from scr*w to screw-up but then it wouldn't rhyme :p:

Not to worry, I like MooseHead too. Urquell is one of my faves, you can usually get it at the Liquor Store in Ont. Used to like Creemore too but it's not available in BC. That one used to sell in Beer Stores.

Cheers
