CoverMaster Corrupts Operating System

Hi All CoverMaster Guru's

I need help urgently. Of late I've discover that CoverMaster is corrupting some of my Operating Systems files. I use O/S XP Pro.

Any reason for that? Did any of you have the same experience?
What can be done to rectify this problem.

Thanx

Covermaster does not corrupt anything in your system. It does not use any system files at all anyway. I use it around 2 years and the only problem it has is to crash due to a leak in memory release after extensive optimization. All it does is to use too much virtual memory. Probably your system has trojans and viruses.

Hi lottoarchitect

This is my problem: Faulting application covermaster.exe, version 0.55.2.0, faulting module covermaster.exe, version 0.55.2.0, fault address 0x0001f5c7. How do you correct the memory fault?
I got 512DDR 400 Ram.

My PC is clean as a new born.

Hi bloubul,
it seems you cannot do much for this. Covermaster file is probably corrupted or you have been in a rare error of windows that cannot properly execute programs (very rare!). Try to get a new setup for Covermaster.
Finally, the memory problem cannot be solved, it is embedded in the code. You just have to accept that if you work with relatively big wheels & optimization, after a while Covemaster will crash, so save your work often.

Help please!!!!!!!!!

What is the correct way to use CoverMaster.
1. To generate the number of lines first and then opimized or
2. To optimized from the start?

Any one please

bloubul, It is better to begin with the optimize enabled at the beginning. If you plan to create big wheels, this will save time anyway, rather than optimizing aftewards a bigger wheel. However you have to do a lot of tricks to reduce wheels further using optimization. Still, if you cannot reduce a wheel further (and you know it can be done in less) don't be frustrated, simply try another approach. There is not a simple solution to everything unfortunately.

Hi lottoarchitect

Thanks for the info.
One more question: When does the "ADVANCE" button come in to play. (It is found on the Optimizing screen)

BlouBul

Hi bloubul,

the advance button never comes active. Probably it was meant to be active at the final release with some options regarding optimization engine but we'll never see this if John Rawson does not make a new version. Nevertheless, even with the current functionality of the optimize process and several tricks you can produce good wheels.

Hi lottoarchitect

Thanks for your reply.

You keep mentioning with "SEVARAL TRICKS you can produce good wheels"

To be honest, I'm not familiar with CM. Thus I ask some help from you and to give me some "TRICKS" to produce good wheels.

Thanking you in advance

Some tricks to use when no further improvement can occur:
1) replace 1-3 tickets and re-apply optimization. Use the 1 2 3 4 5 6 ticket.
2) remove a ticket and optimize. Then add a ticket again. Sometimes the system can make a better wheel that way.
3) Build from a smaller wheel you already have.
4) Build (reduce) from a bigger wheel you already have.

These are enough for now I think.

Hi lottoarchitect

Please help me, I want to change a wheel CM40(647)400 93.38% coverd to a CM49(657)400 without losing any previous cover.
It gives me at present the following:

'3' '3b' '4' '4b'
5 2 1
8 3
1
12 1
6
3
5 1
2
7 2
8
7
12 1 1
3 3 1
6 1
1
10 1 2
6
2 1
8
12 2 1
6 1
14 2
8 1 1

Thank you in advance

bloubul,

Covermaster cannot control two distinct coverages at the same time. Either you'll build a wheel as CM40(647) or CM40(657) but you cannot control both.

Hi lottoarchitect

Tell me please, "IS IT POSSIBLE TO STOP CM, CLOSE IT AND RE-START AT A LATER STAGE AT THE SAME PLACE WHEN IT WAS STOPPED".

Thanks

BlouBul

Well bloubul, I think you cannot, at least didn't find anything like that. Actually there is no need for such a thing as the optimization is something like zillions of random trials (routes), each one performed very quickly. There is the known starting point (the wheel prior optimization) and when you apply optimization (or automatically restarted) you don't know which route is has been followed (possibly this is based on an internal random seed - like ININUGA) and possibly could be an option in the advanced panel which never comes active. Every time you re-apply optimization on the same wheel, it seems it takes another route of all those zillions as it should; in short no reason to be able to save the current status as it does not keep track of the routes it has tested (technically very difficult).

Hi lottoarchitect

Thanks for the info.

I have another problem. How do I optimize a 8084 line wheel not stop. I tried but after 2 days it crashed out. Every block is tested 20x and this is what kills me, it takes for ever. This wheel give "BIG" numbers and I mean it, but it is only coverd for 3 and 4 at 100%(and this is not usefull to me cost wise) but 5 and up wards only 32.3568%. I'm trying for the 5 numbers to reduce my costs but battle badly.

Any suggestions how to go about.

Bad news, you can't do anything bloubul. First, you try to build a very large wheel and you need a supercomputer if you want to do something good and quickly. Also, as I mentioned before, Covermaster will eventually crash after a while which you cannot avoid. Just save your work often and optimize wheels up to 1000 tickets. Beyond that is just a torture; this is my only advice.
