Can anyone calculate what the averages for each position in the 6/49 are?

Position number 1, pos2, pos3, etc....

Thanks.

Hi Picard,

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but I have stats for how many times nrs showed in all ball positions ie:

Pos 1.
Nr/drawn/expected

01/236/230.3
02/194/206.3
03/172/184.4
04/172/164.3 ...etc.

May be this would help in calculating averages, or alternately could be plotted as x-y bar chart for an easy overview.

Let me know if you want these, Brad

I need the average of each posintion.
Take all the numbers in that position and divide it by the number of draws.

An example would be that position 1 average should be between 5 and 9.
6 would be around 44.

Yo Picard,

For what it's worth, the positional averages from Dec 3/97 to date are as follows:

Pos 1 = 7
Pos 2 = 15
Pos 3 = 22
Pos 4 = 29
Pos 5 = 36
Pos 6 = 43

I would venture a guess that if you use the entire database, you'll find the averages to be very close to 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42 simply because of the law of averages.

Positionnal numbers

It is easy to find out the range of numbers drawn for each position (N1 to N6) but I tried programming my Lotto 6/49 database, so I could determine the range that would meet a certain percentage.

When I tried 75%, I got the following results after 1902 draws:

for N1, 75.1% of the numbers are between 1 and 10;
for N2, 77.2% of the numbers are between 4 and 21;
for N3, 75.8% of the numbers are between 13 and 32;
for N4, 77.3% of the numbers are between 21 and 40;
for N5, 75.8% of the numbers are between 31 and 46;
for N6, 79.0% of the numbers are between 40 and 49.

Anybody else has tried this? I think the logic in my program is good but would like to validate my results.

Haven't seen you in a while Gilles. Nice to see you again. :)

This does seem quite good. Although the 1st and last, I think, should have a wider range, the rest is great. :agree2:

Try one about 65%. That should give better results for the 1st and last numbers.

Keep posting!

Average by position

If all the 1902 draws are considered, the average for each position (N1 to N6) is quite similar to what NmbrsDude has found. The actual results are:

for N1 = 7.4 for N2 = 14.6 for N3 = 21.9
for N4 = 29.0 for N2 = 36.2 for N3 = 43.1

No problem, Picard

for N1, 65.9% of the numbers are between 1 and 8;
for N2, 67.4% of the numbers are between 5 and 19;
for N3, 67.9% of the numbers are between 13 and 29;
for N4, 66.1% of the numbers are between 23 and 38;
for N5, 67.9% of the numbers are between 32 and 45;
for N6, 70.1% of the numbers are between 42 and 49.

Gilles,

did a quick and dirty calc on nrs 1-10, only had 1880 draws...but that shouldn't matter...came up with this:

Nrs 01-10____1415 hits
Nrs 11-31_____465 hits....75.3% for pos 1

Your % looks good.

Positional ranges

For those that play positions, here is a breakdown of numbers for each position after 1903 draws

Position / 100% / 85% / 65% / 50%

N1 / 01-38 / 01-13 / 01-08 / 01-06
N2 / 02-42 / 03-24 / 05-19 / 05-15
N3 / 03-44 / 10-34 / 13-29 / 16-27
N4 / 04-47 / 18-41 / 23-38 / 25-36
N5 / 11-48 / 27-46 / 32-42 / 34-43
N6 / 13-49 / 38-49 / 42-49 / 44-49

This means that for position 2 (N2), 85% of the numbers coming out were between 3 and 24 and that for position 5, 50% of the numbers coming out were between 34-43.
