Yeah, I feel the same way.

Boycott them all  ...

Hey!! Here's an idea  ... let's start playing Ontario's 6/49 @$.50/ticket by proxy !!

For me it is not a budget thing...It is a question of principles and respect for the real players....
That increase will kill this lotto as simple as that...I'm going to play Banco instead....
:agree:

Contrary to the lottery corporations' lies, the true odds of winning will worsen. While the current odds of winning is 1 in 53.66 for every dollar wagered, the new odds will be 1 in 64.62 per $1 wager. Spending $54 (54 tickets) before on one draw will give you a good chance of winning $10, but now you will have to spend $64 (32 tickets) just to have a good chance of winning $5! :bawl:

There are 172,200 unique combinations of matching 2+B for the $5 prize. While it currently costs less than $14 million to buy every possible combination, it will cost $27,967,632 after the price increase!

As for the new $5 prize for 2 balls + bonus number, I think it's a farce. Perhaps some excellent math gurus here could tell me what are the REAL odds of a lottery

So, speaking of the lottery corporation(s), has anyone seen Michael Moore's movie, The Corporation? Never mind, this comment probably doesn't belong in this forum.

I just wish some whistleblower at the Olgc had the nerve and sense of right to come forward and put these money grabbing bastards on their heels. Whenever government has massive amounts of cash coming in greed and corruption takes over. There's something not right when millions are taken in profit each week yet you can spend hours in a hospital hallway on a stretcher waiting to be seen by a doctor, or having to wait hours to get a health card. Perhaps the allocation of these funds should be reviewed, but with a review comes a (God forbid) audit. Its time to ask some serious questions about where this money goes. I've seen their policy statement and it was written in 1982. A pie chart doesn't cut it for me when millions are being tossed around.
Pardon my rant, perhaps some more fibre in my diet........:)

I don't play as much 6/49 nowadays. Only when I feel like it and that is not frequent. More of the S7 lately.

I will be joining you folks (Maggie and Charles) on the other thread for ON49 and Keno. Just updating my Keno and ON49 stats which I haven't done for the last 9 months.

We will wait and see!

Ont49 looks like it'll be a favourite, but the suits downtown are watching it too.

BC49 is going doubling in price already to $1, so you bet the OLGC has Ontario49 in their sights!

After talking it over with my sometimes playing partner, I'll be switching to the Ontario49 for regular picks and only a couple of QP in the 649. I'm not too sure that I could be like hot4 and post numbers for a game that I didn't play, because if those numbers came up, I'd have to book myself into one of those bright white rooms with no windows .... for a while. :)

Here are OLGC's 86 reasons for increasing the ticket prices by 100%:

1) Ron Barbaro, OLGC Chair/ Chief Executive Officer's salary: $395,617.31.
2) VP, Human Resources $205,157.42
3) Chief Operating Officer $296,448.67
4) Senior VP, Lottery $201,298.65
5) VP, Finance & Admin & Corp Cont $201,298.65
6) VP, Gaming Marketing Cust Dev $201,298.65
7) Senior VP, Gaming $201,298.65
8) VP, Chief Information Officer $201,298.65
9) VP, Gen. Coun Crp Sec, Leg & Comp $201,298.64
:
86) Design/ Devel Oper. Mgr., Facil $100,990.37

If you were wondering where most of Ontario lottery players' money went, OLGC has 86 employees that were paid a jackpot of over $100,000 last year! The key to lottery riches is not by predicting the unpredictable, but by becoming a manager at the government agency!

Welcome eyespy :)

Yes, we are getting hit from all sides - and more to come - wait 'til interest rates start moving up up up. :dizzy:

This little lotto price increase will affect all lotto revenues. Next to change will be Super7.

I've said it before - it will be a year experiment gone bad - the same jackpots - 60-70% the revenues. As Dennis mentioned, the price increase penalizes the real player - the ones who pick their own numbers.

Shame :dang:

reply to my nasty email

Well I told them what I thought and here a cut and paste to what they thought

Thank you for your e-mail inquiry to Western Canada Lottery Corporation
(WCLC). We respect your decision to no longer participate in the LOTTO 6/49
game.

We would like to assure you that the national decision to change LOTTO 6/49
next June - the first major change on the game in 22 years - was not made
lightly. While we respect the fact that you prefer the current LOTTO 6/49
game, players have indicated through their buying habits and through
research that they do not find the game as attractive as it once was. We
understand their sentiments, as nine out of every ten LOTTO 6/49 Jackpots
offered during the last year were either $2 Million or $5 Million. These
amounts may not appeal to our players as they did in the 1980s and 1990s.

We hope the revised LOTTO 6/49 game will meet the needs of most players.
While sold at a $2 price point, it will be able to offer more attractive
Jackpots (approximately half will be $10 Million or more), a new $5 prize
category for matching two regular numbers and the Bonus, and improved
overall odds of winning (one in 32 versus the current one in 54).

WCLC expects that all players will tailor their wagers upon the introduction
of the revised LOTTO 6/49 game and only spend what they feel they can
afford. We hope that would be the case as all lottery games are intended as
recreational and regardless of the product, the decision to participate or
not participate, and to what degree, will always remain with the player.

Again, we very much respect your comments about the game change. We
appreciate you taking the time to share those comments with us, as we value
all consumer feedback.

Sincerely,

Kevin van Egdom

This is good. Now we have some official response from them.

Some good stats here 9/10 were 2-5 mill jackpots. In 2003, I count 11 dates where the jackpot was $10 mill won or carried over. In 2002, we had 16.

Now, 52 weeks x 2 draws/week = 104 total draws.
While sold at a $2 price point, it will be able to offer more attractive
Jackpots (approximately half will be $10 Million or more),

52 draws with $10,000,000 or more???!!!!??? a 475% increase in $10 mill++ jackpots!!????

Won't happen.

Canadian Press Release May 21,2004

Toronto.

A spokesperson from the IPLC, the organization resposible for administering Canada's 2 national lotterys 6/49 and Super7, announced today that because of recent market research indicating Canadian lottery players desire larger jackpots, the IPLC in discussion with the Government of Canada has decided to offer the new 6/49-for-a-twonie to a multitude of countries listed below:

Antigua and Barbuda
The Bahamas

Barbados

Cuba

Dominica

Dominican Republic

Grenada

Haiti

Jamaica

Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Lucia

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Trinidad and Tobago

In addition the following countries will be included:

Algeria Niger
Angola Gabon Nigeria
Benin Gambia Reunion
Botswana Ghana Rwanda
Burkina Faso Guinea Sao Tome & Principe
Burundi Guinea-Bissaau Senegal
Cameroon Kenya Seychelles
Cape Verde Lesotho Sierra Leone
Central African Rep. Liberia Somalia
Chad Libya South Africa
Comoros Madagascar Sudan
Congo (Brazzaville) Malawi Swaziland
Congo (DRC, Zaire) Mali Tanzania
Cote d'Ivoire Mauritania Togo
Djibouti Mauritius Tunisia
Egypt Morocco Uganda
Equatorial Guinea Mozambique Western Sahara
Eritrea Namibia Zambia
Ethiopia Zimbabwe

This decision was taken in light of the fact that players in these countries also desire higher jackpots and the local governments were unable to provide 22 years of lotto experience.

"We wanted to bring prime lottery experience offered by our increased jackpots in 6/49 to as many people as we could" CEO and Chair of the IPLC, John "Jack" P. T. L. Ottery II told reporters.

"Based on our vast market research, lottery players were ready for change and after 22 years of a very successful product we were effectively positioned to deliver on our customers desires - kinda like Coke and new-Coke", Mr. Ottery quipped.

When asked about revenue generated from these additional countries, Mr. Ottery said "sales and marketing have been working with finance on this and the sales and marketing gurus in our organization are confident we can deliver top line growth here. They assure me that some new forecasting technology downloaded from the internet has provided exceptional lotto sales forecasts so we're confident going forward."

Reporters asked if there was any other motivation for the announcement. "Frankly, yes. We need more people to support this thing. We want to deliver, based on our customers expectations, a made-in-Canada American lotto experience where the jackpots are humongous - did you see the MegaBall the other day, WOW!. Now that's the experience we want to give our lotto players in Canada and these other countries. But the U.S. has 250+ million people so we had to get more players in the game here."

Asked if the increased ticket sales would revise the predicted number of $10,000,000 jackpots downward, Mr. Ottery repled "Based on the market research, no"

Government of Canada officials have made no comment.

The new 6/49 starts end of May. Good luck.
