Birthday numbers

It is common knowledge that somebody picking 6 numbers for Lotto 6/49 will often pick date numbers (day or month from 1 to 31). It is easy to remember and in many cases, people feel these are their lucky numbers. Therefore with more people playing them, it is normal that the number of winners goes up when all 6 numbers are under or equal to 31.

But up to now, with 1944 draws and not considering the bonus number, the results obtained for different date numbers in the 6 winning numbers are fairly well what could be expected:

# date numbers Number of draws Percentage Theorical percentage
6 DN: 84 / 4.32% / 5.27%
5 DN: 402 / 20.68% / 21.87%
4 DN: 668 / 34.36% / 34.43%
3 DN: 531 / 27.31% / 26.23%
2 DN: 215 / 11.06% / 10.18%
1 DN: 42 / 2.16% / 1.90%
0 DN: 2 / 0.10% / 0.13%

So the real question is: If somebody is sure that low numbers will come out, should he play them or wait to play for high numbers?

Or another way to ask is: Is it better to win low amounts or not play and wait for theorical high numbers to come out?

But then, for draw #1748 in Oct. 2000, where the lowest number
was 38 (not even one date numbers), there were 4 winners with all 6 winning numbers (prize: ~$564,000.), 6 winners with 5 winning numbers + Bonus (prize: ~$113,000.) and 929 winners with 5 winning numbers (prize: ~$583.). Not very different from actual results for the last draw.

Does that mean that some of you will not play high numbers?
