Atlantic Lottery to offer online tickets

HALIFAX - The Atlantic Lottery Corporation will be the first government-run gaming organization in Canada to sell tickets over the internet.
Six games, including Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Super 7, will be available on the Atlantic lottery website early next month.
But first the site will try to verify that shoppers are over 18 and come from the region.
Lara Wood, marketing manager at the corporation, says it's trying to reach a new market, not squeeze out retailers.
"Because this is a very specific type of person who wants to do this, we don't expect the impact to be very great," she said.
Wood says there are more than 30 lottery companies around the world who have gone online.
Some gambling critics worry the trend will increase problem gambling. But the Atlantic Lottery Corporation says the website will limit how much a person can spend.
