I was speaking with a Lotto 6/49 retailer on Wednesday, October 19.

He advised me not to play that night as the OLGC just delivered a sign for an increased jackpot for the Saturday October 22 draw.

He suspected that there would not be a winning ticket until the Saturday draw. Sure enough, his prophecy was correct.

His theory is that everything is databased by computers and thus, the OLGC can unfairly manipulate the results to drive up sales.

Your thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated......

The jackpot wasn't won on Saturday....which only furthers the theory that winning numbers are withheld to drive up sales

Have you heard this song?

A lottery is a taxation,
Upon all the fools in Creation;
And Heav'n be prais'd,
It is easily rais'd,
Credulity's always in fashion;
For, folly's a fund,
Will never lose ground,
While fools are so rife in the Nation (1)

I don't wish to discuss my lotto-travails with you
but I will put forward some of my theories and assumptions:

1) those frustrated by the enormous odds against winning the lotto start rumours it must be fraudulent, without having an ounce of credible proof

2) retailers don't need to make commission on their lotto terminal sales so they spread rumours to lazy-bum customers about the lotto being crooked and thus deprive themselves of potential income

3) lazy bums are too gullible to form their own opinion so they listen to every Tom, Dick and Harry retailer

Good luck getting proof on your new-found "theory", start another thread when you get some ... :wavey:

If you can't handle honest opinion and you need sugar-coated replies I suggest you find a 'nicer' sand-box to play in ... and save admonishment for those who need it.

Best way to play lotteries is through a pool

Yes, the only time many smart people play the lottery is as part of a pool for a huge jackpot. Unfortunately, most lottery players are not smart and are not interested in multiplying their odds for the same amount of spending.

Brad,
This guy "649winner" reminds me of someone from the past. A member of the Fab 4 idiots/morons.

One who always brags and also butt-in where he is not wanted..... Do you know who I'm referring to?

You noticed too, eh Chris? :D . It was civil for a while here, and then when their garbage lotto-site shut down recently all of a sudden there seems to be an influx of 'disruptions' ... who knows who's who anymore :notme:

But if the suspected is true then these silly 'new' aliarses ain't got the gumption to come right out for fear of getting banned again. Having already said more than I intended ... not aiming to rub salt into old wounds ... if I'm proven wrong then I'll retract (maybe ;) )

It feels like lotto-Hallowe'en ... Hobgoblins creeping all around us ... and they ain't looking for candy

every sporting event including the lottery is fixed. That is why they exist.

Imagine if people were winning the lottery on a consistant basis... no one would go to work and there would be no reason to keep running the lottery since they ain't got no profit.

Ever notice that the winning ticket usually goes to old people living on the edge of the GTA? Never inside the GTA. These people usually have kids that if they would have at least let the kids cash the ticket, they would be richer. But since they will pass on that money to their kids, they will have to pay tax on it!!!! A gift is taxable. A winning lottery ticket is not as long as you don't spend it!!!!

I always thought it was fixed since there are 4 million people playing it in the GTA and only one person wins it living in some small town outside of Toronto. How is that possible? The odds favor the GTA folks, but the odds don't mean a thing if you are trying to make money.

And the gov is trying to make money.

There was a report a few years back that stated that the gov is trying to get people addicted to gambling so that they could get a crutch on people. Sort of like a dependency. They make sure that all people that are desperate to pay their bills will show up to work to make the wheels keep on turning. No good if everyone was confortable to take weeks off of work due to a wins on the lottery. And it surely will not help if that person is an able bodied person capable of working... so they give the wins to someone retired.

How can this be? There is no way...some will say. But, they fixed the world series. Many times. And not to mention boxing is fixed.. as well as all major sports event like NFL football and now hockey. All it takes is one member to do the deeds. If all the money were on the Leafs, you can bet that they would lose that night. It's a fact that Lost Wages (Las Vegas) is in every wager there is.. and they never lose.

And if you really want to win, knowing that the games are fixed, is to have a mentality that you play the fix. You have to find out who is hot and play against them. Find out what the public likes and play against them.

It's a little harder to do that with the lottery.

I think that the best odds of winning the lottery would be to play in every major town outside the GTA going East or North or West. And play the quick picks.

Quick picks are provided by the lottery machines and if they want to give a win, that would be the only way they could give it.. by quick pick.

So far, lately, it's out west that they win. So start there. Bolton, Miton, Port whatever... just go outside the GTA and your odds increase.

Re above post:
I think it's more like 6 million in the GTA. Anyway the above post is really quite the other extreme: super-cynical.
Maybe people in the downtown GTA don't play as much. They have other diversions. And Gawd, if the world goes to quik piks then I gotta find a new game! I think the idea of Lotto goes back such a long way that people will never be completely sold on quik piks, at least not everywhere.

Just looked at results of poll
is it OK to publish this?
and don't know how many have voted so far but the Yes's are 80% to No's 20%. Hmmm...
If this is a fair representation of lotto players on this board (it's probably not really) then that's pretty interesting.

Actually, I would guess ppl split 50/50 on this issue. But thoughts of all will never be known.

I agree with you bro. With Major sporting events, noone will ever know for sure. I've always dabbled in the sports wagering but soon get frusturated at the improbable results. I prefer the lazy day-dream scheme of the lotto.

I don't mind the extreme long odds and the idea of the government and OLGC getting their fair take.....but when there's a suspicion that the game is being unfairly manipulated in the name of profits, I find that very disheartening.

When these long-shot lottos are marketed and played by predominantly lower-income working stiffs, and when others enjoy this as a hobby and invest time in prediction systems....much like some on this board.....it seems quite evil to further increase the already-ridiculous odds stacked against you by choosing what numbers are winners and where those tickets are located.

This is my first post ever, i've been a LT fan for a while though.

Man, fixed or not, they don't have the SIN of every person that buys a damn ticket.

Then again, you're wrong, if you win and you give money to your family it is not taxed, only interest revenue on lottery wins is taxed. It's a know fact and i know someone who's very close to me that won the Super7 and did share it with her family, and no taxes.

About everyone being rich, wtf, in Quebec about 700 people have won a million dollars or more since 1982 so wtf are you saying, that there would be 100,000's of winners or what.

Yes, government wants an addiction because a part of lottery revenues are given to the government as a tax. Then again, lottery commissions make money regardless of a win, they just win more if the jackpot is bigger because fools think they get better chances.

I have one question, what is the biggest prize you've ever won in the lottery, and how often do you win something. Because according to you, you should be winning every week major prize.

Sorry if this makes up for a bitchy introduction, i look up to exchanging ideas with you guys and gals on the lottery.

See ya!

I'm from the west...

...so we say that the lottery is fixed every time someone east of the Manitoba border wins. Aw, we don't really beleive that, it just seems so. Fact is that if you question your local lottery corp., they will be delighted to explain all the checks and controls that exist to keep them from even the suggestion that they have manipulated anything.
The only thing I have against the national 6/49 is the price increase- (I know, I know, it's been said and done...), still, when I quit playing 6/49 and switched to our local Western 6/49, I've never had so much fun, and won so much cash (I'm $1500.00 up over the last six months).
If you don't like something, change.

Don’t worry about quick picks. The more games turn toward quicky picky ones both the more players may quit playing and the more online sites and places with non quick pick games may appear and more may applaud. I’m sure no one and especially serious companies would risk loosing majority of customers….

And, BTW, what I’m thinking about just quick pick games? Can you imagine a casino where players sit in one room where is a computer that gives them numbers which players have to play, if they want to play at all. In the another room is a roulette table and dealers, and one dealer once in a while comes in the room with players and tells them which number is drawn in the room with the roulette table. Well, probably such a casino would close it’s doors much sooner than later.

I agree both with you and ROCKaMIC and I’m also quite sure lottery games aren’t fixed, so I voted no.

The only I can’t agree with you is about the change you made. Not all people may make change as you did, since the game you play is available to you just locally. I think there is no
game available in all provinces that pays $10 for a 3/6 and up to the 1.000.000 for all 6 while tickets are 50 cents and while players can go both for QPs OR JUST own numbers.
I’m not sure why is that since IMO all cheaper lottery tickets, better odds games and sensible prizes should bring many players into it, and once they were into it they might or would be willing to go also for many other available games at the same time, including those with the most expensive tickets or the highest odds…
