Colleen Jones in trouble at curling worlds

The defending Scott Tournament champion and her Nova Scotia rink were considered one of the favourites going into this year's world curling championships in Gavle, Sweden.

But after winning her first match in Saturday's opening draw, Jones has dropped two straight, her latest setback a coming Sunday in 10-4 loss to Patti Lank of the United States.

In Saturday's second draw, Jones dropped an 8-6 decsion to 16-year-old skip Madeleine Dupont of Denmark.

Mark Dacey is off to a 2-0 start at the tournament.

Dacey and his rink cruised to a 10-3 win over Denmark in Sunday's morning draw.

Dacey and 2002 Olympic gold medallist Pal Trulsen of Norway are 2-0 at this tournament. Canada edged Scotland 8-7 in Saturday's opening draw.

Dacey is Perfect!
On the men's side, Canadian Mark Dacey finished the round-robin with a perfect 9-0 record following Thursday's 11-8 win over Olympic gold medallist Pal Trulsen of Norway.

The victory gives Dacey last-rock advantage through the playoffs and top spot in the round-robin.

GAVLE, Sweden (CP) - Canada's Colleen Jones came from behind to beat Switzerland's Luzia Ebnoether 8-6 in the semifinal at the world curling championship Friday.
With a chance to tie the game, Ebnoether was light on her draw to the four-foot rings with her final shot in the 10th end, giving Canada a steal of one.
Jones trailed 5-3 after the sixth end in which Ebnoether stole a point. The two teams traded single points in the next two ends before Jones scored three in the ninth to take a 7-6 lead.

A measurement was needed in the ninth to determine whether Jones scored three or four.

The Halifax team will play for the gold medal Saturday against the winner Friday's later semifinal between Norway's Dordi Nordby and Patti Lank of the U.S.
