Winning Keno

I purchased the first edition published 2004. I was disappointed
in that the big basic computer program is missing lines.
Look at page 45 as the line number stops at line 5399 on
page 45 and the starts 6015 on page 46.

Normally, looking at other line numbers missing is 6100 to 6110

The second program mentioned completely works, and it is good.

If you are running windows XP you will find QBasic not on your XP
disk, but an earlier version of windows will have QBasic.

Also, Windows XP is no longer DOS based, therefore the print
function does not work. This can be a small problem.

Even though the first program is in my opinion incomplete,
parts of it does work. The concept is unique, but
it is fun watch the occurrences increase to your target number.

Does it work? Just as good as any other. My use was unsuccessful.
I would like any opinion on book #2, if it has changed from book #1

It was (and still is) not uncommon for BASIC programmers to skip line numbers. This was done to group certain functions of a program within a set of line numbers by itself for easier editing and debugging.

Most BASIC compilers today don't require line numbers any more anyway. The only reason to use a line number is to point the program to a certain subfunction, such as in the old GOSUB and GOTO commands.

I don't think QBASIC has been offered in the MS operating system since Windows 98, if then. I've transferred my version down through the years from computer to computer and still use it on occasion. Although it was designed to use the old DOS operating system, it still works and still generates the same output in some of my old test programs (written over 20 years ago) that utilized the Random Number Generator (RNG). The major limitation with the original version was, and still is, that any program could be no larger than 64Kb in size.

I haven't tried any of them; proceed at your own risk. I have no idea whether these compilers will permit you to write programs larger than 64K.

There are other versions of BASIC still commercially available, such as PowerBASIC, which have taken the original compiler and added many more features and commands. I've used this before with some of my (unaltered) QBASIC code, but, strangely enough, programs using the computer's RNG will generate different results than when one used the original QBASIC compiler. An example of this would be generating random picks in a lottery. They aren't in error, just different. But PowerBASIC compilers does permit programs larger than 64Kb.

The PRINT (to screen) and LPRINT (to a printer) commands in QBASIC and in PowerBASIC still work for me but I've found it easier to print output to a data file, use a text editor to format the output, then generate hard copy if desired.

I would still like to know about Winning Keno edition 2,
in how different are the concepts and if a computer
program is listed. I tried to email the author through
his publisher, but as yet, received no response.

The sceond edition ostensibly is charted from 8 million occurances for each hour instead of 4 million as in vol 1.

In practical sense both opertationally the same, inconsistent, but I had bigger hits with vol 1.

One one test run I played only the numbers that showed that high occurance in both editions, this did not perfrorm any better.

SIDEBAR- When discussing VK with a known IGT machine techie I was led to belive that the machine employs technology similar to telephone redial button to replay your numbers - so the VK is able to recall big hit numbers and not repeat them. At first I was leery of this explanation but found that when I hit and cashed out and went to another, I did better then staying on. Anyone have any similar experiences with VK machines?

Book rundowns don't live up to expectation and then there is no way to directly communicate Q & A with Gilfilan.

I am still would like for someone to list the correct missing lines
5400 to 5500 to 5600 to 5800 which comprise of ten lines each
together with lines 6000 to 6015.

Also, correct the test program for live, machine, internet,and state
