another fishing story, from the West Coast....

working mid-Vancouver island last month, went fishing on days off, came home with total of 27 sockeye, 7-8 pounds.....froze some, canned some.....first week or so in august will be on large packer, running up and down johnstone straits for a couple of weeks.....on southwest area of Vanc.island, fishing derby happens soon, first prize is 24' boat,trailer,motor.....extra prize is $20,000 for fish over 55 pounds....last year someone caught a qualifying fish the week before, and the week after, the derby....but not during the derby...booh hooh.....maybe get lucky this year.....nothing nicer on the west coast than a good day fishing...... .....any beer goes good with fishing.....

darn salmon....it's not how you catch them, it's how you smoke and can them....

am not much good at catching salmon....i sometimes go out on a 32' ex-troller with a few people, and i catch no salmon.....but when the salmon fishing is bad, and we stop the boat and jig for cod.......my oh my....i am usually the only one who, jigging for cod, catches cod.....rock cod, with filets up to almost 2 inches thick.....yummy...........one more major derby coming up...i won't be here for it, but later in august i will visit my friend who has a float camp in Nootka Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver island, and, from previous experience, expect to catch: halibut ( in the over-50-pound range), red snapper, salmon, and, when we put our crab traps down on the way out, will have those filled on the way back, as well as,sometimes,an octopus or two......we will be taking pictures, and i will try to post them then.....good fishing, Dennis Bassboss.........there is nothing better on a summer day than a slow boat, small swells, cold drinks, and good companionship......... ......india pale ale, most labels
