Hmm. Should I fill up my tank or by a lottery ticket. Either won't get me too far. :(

Thanks for the link, Nick. I haven't been out to Flying J lately, not sure what it's been there for the past few days. Pioneer is usually a bit cheaper than the rest of the stations. I still think it's crazy.

Industry experts say the price of gas is high due to the world price per barrel at over $40, What I don't get is if Venezula is not effected by world oil pressures, how can they offer gas a 5 cents a litre, and we in Canada can't
We have enough oil, here in the tar sands, estimated to last ALL of Canada for the next 500 years.
I think we all know there are some corrupt people making money here.
Want to get elected, then do away with ALL taxes on gas, GST included.

It all sounds like a nifty shell game to me (pun intended).
If we're to believe the 'experts', the cost of crude accounts for 40% of the price of a liter of gas, the rest being promotion and distribution.

Now then, if crude goes from $32 to $40 a barrel, that's 25% of 40%, or a 7 cent increase (on 69c/L). If so why has gas gone from 69 to 90 cents here? The math escapes me .... :dang:

Time to park them brontosaur SUV's and shrink the demand a bit I think  ... get an econobox, won't bleed at the pumps as much :D

I won't even try to account for taxes ... if I did, the cost of crude/liter will be even lower I think

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

>This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.
>Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29, that's $10.32 per gallon
>Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19, that's $9.52 per gallon
>Gatorade 20 oz $1.59, that's $10.17 per gallon

>Whiteout 7 oz $1.39, that's $25.42 per gallon

Just wonder how many shots of Nyquil it would take to forget the increase ... right now Pepto Bismol is needed to stomach the cost of crude ... gotta wash it all down with some Evian cuz Scope doesn't kill the bad taste ...

ka ching!! .... so how much is that? Oh yeah, forgot the tax again ... no cure for that ... could try Whiteout ?!

Before the end of June....Another drastic increase will happen....This is only the tip of the iceberg....
Soon renting a car won't be the problem anymore but filling up the tank will...

A Gas Chain Letter

Just got this from a relative, a quick read confirms that it just may be worth a try, beats complaining only , see for yourselves:

HOW TO GET CONTROL OF OUR GAS PRICES

It's worth a shot !!

I hear we are going to hit close to a $1.42 a litre by
the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We
need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip
Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH
MORE SENSE than the don't buy gas on a certain day
campaign that was going around last April or May! The
oil companies just laughed at that because they knew
we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to
buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it
was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a
plan that can really work. Please read it and join
with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at
about $.80 a litre is super cheap. Me too! It is
currently .78 to .89 depending on what day it is,
for regular unleaded gas in Montreal, Qc. We all
know that we're being screwed by the oil companies.
Does everyone remember how they drove up the prices
way past a dollar and got the gas prices to where
they wanted them, claiming there was a shortage
of oil. Well, there isn't any shortage now, and the
oil is more abundant than it was 35 years ago when the
price of a litre of gas was 29 cents!!!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have
conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre of
gas is CHEAP at $0.78-$0.85, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that
BUYERS control the marketplace.... not sellers !!
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers
need to take action. The only way we are going to see
the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in
the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we
can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we
all rely on our cars, we cant just stop buying gas.
But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all
act together to force a price war.

Here is the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T
purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies
(which now are one), PETRO CANADA, SHELL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be
inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their
prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally
millions of PETRO CANADA and SHELL buyers. Its really
simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this
point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it
is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to at least thirty people. If
each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =
300) and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x
10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message
reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have
reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three
million get excited and pass this on to ten friends
each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....
THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all (If you don't understand how we can reach
300 million and all you have to do is send this to
10 people... Well, lets face it, you just aren't
a Mathematician. But I am. So trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this
email out to ten more people within one day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be
contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you I
didn't think you and I had that much potential, did
you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this
makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE
$0.64 OR LESS RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN
REALLY WORK!!!!!!!

PLEASE take a few minutes and pass this on to everyone
you know!! If you can't e-mail it to at least ten
people, please print out a bunch of copies and hand it
out to your family and friends!!

That isn't going to work.. here's a little quote from this site. If you think boycotting some stations is a good idea, you need to review the basics of supply and demand..

A boycott of a couple of brands wouldn't result in lower overall prices: Prices at all the non-boycotted outlets would rise due to the temporarily limited supply and increased demand, making the original prices look cheap by comparison. The shunned outlets could then make a killing by offering gasoline at its "normal" (i.e., pre-boycott) price or by selling off their output to the non-boycotted companies, who will need the extra supply to meet demand. The only person who really gets hurt in this proposed scheme is the service station operator, who has almost no control over the price of gasoline.
The only practical way of reducing gasoline prices is through the straightforward means of buying less gasoline, not through a simple and painless scheme of just shifting where we buy it. The inconvenience of driving less is a hardship too many people apparently aren't willing to endure, however.

The site you posted makes some good points, after reading it seems there is no 'quick fix' to the gas situation so the email idea I got yesterday is not the answer. But doing nothing just doesn't feel right anymore.

Problem remains that most will not accept the idea of conserving by driving less or making do with an econobox, also the infrastructure in many if not most places simply does not allow for using mass transit as an alternate to driving. Will car pooling get more popular?

And the auto makers certainly don't help by 'pushing' the SUV image, we know why they do that ... much larger profits on dressed-up trucks than on smaller fuel efficient vehicles ...

Is there a solution to this problem? :notme:

here's a thought: what if a big quake drowns all the California SUV's?? ... nah, they'll just buy gas guzzling power boats instead :dang: ..... ;)

Go electric...Short term solution that is....Once too many people will be on electric re-fueling...The price for this will also increase.. Who owns the patents for most transportations devices that don't need gas to work???
The major Multi-National gas company worldwide....
And they disreguard the future of mankind ...They don't even care about human life itself...
No wonder the Bush administration is stating that it is not proven that greenhouse effect is the cause for the general increases in average temperature and changes in climates worldwide...
 Lobbies.... :dang: :heul:

Just gas pains .... or a sign of the times to come?

When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for.

Police arrived at the scene to find an ill man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage.

A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake.

The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.
