Sheba, you are correct. The long-term average for the second prize is $109.941.60. With 6 of the 8 numbers drawn between 1-31, the winners had too many people to share the parimutuel prizes with.
In contrast, 5 of the previous draw's numbers were above 31 and the lowest number was 16, so there was not even one winner of the first and second prizes. Most system players would never choose their lowest number as 16 or higher in the mistaken belief that such a high-sum selection would have a lower probabibility of winning.
This shows that the most rewarding "system" in the long run for parimutuel lotteries such as Lotto Super 7 and 6/49 is to choose rarer combinations. For example, if you are one of the few smart players that consistently choose 5 or more numbers above 31 and your numbers eventually came up on March 5, you would have been the sole winner of the $259,510.50 second-prize pool instead of having to split it with others.
