Hello Everyone,
My name is Josh and I am new to this forum. My reason for posting here is simple, I want to compare the odds of the most popular state lotteries (in my case New Hampshire Powerball and Megabucks) to a few intriging national raffles I have found on the web.
The raffle I have most recently come across is giving away a sailboat and $500,000 is cash prizes. Voyage of the Spray, Inc. the non-profit running the raffle is selling only 20,000 tickets at a price of $100 a ticket. With over 200 prizes given away the odds of winning work out to 1 in 100 - check it out, voyageofthespray.org. Of course, I am only really concerned with the grand cash prize (not the sailboat as Ia m not a sailor) which is $400,000.
My question is this - Is it worth my time and money to put $100 down for a raffle ticket with a 1 in 20,000 chance to win the 400K or do I keep payin 2 bucks a week for New Hampshire Powerball and Megabucks? Just for a referece, the odds of winning 100k in Powerball *second place prize* is nearly 1 in 3 mill and the odds of winning the jackpot in Megabucks is nearly 1 in a mill.
The way I see it even if I buy 100 Powerball and Megabucks draws at a time, but odds of winning big are still better with one of these non-profit fundraising raffles.
Let me know what you all think.
