Repeats after doubles

Sitting on a 599 here in Ontario, I though I would look at what happens with repeats after a double number. Since I had the research I though I would share.

Here in Ontario (I imagine it doesn't vary much) repeats happen about 60 percent of the time, with 1 number repeating from the last draw in 40% of cases, 2 numbers repeating 18% of the time and all 3 numbers repeating only 2% of the time.

However, I found that for doubles, the repeat stats are somewhat different. Neither digit repeats 46% of the time, 1 digit repeats in 46% of cases and both digits repeat only 8% of the time.

I break doubles down into two components: the double digit (eg 99) and the compainion digit (eg 5). They both repeated about equally, but the double digit always showed as a single digit in all cases in my database. The companion came out mostly as a single, but about a third of the time it came out as a new double (eg. 599, next draw is x55).

So, after doubles you can eliminate the double pair (eg. 99) and the combination pair (eg. 59) quite safely, with an almost 50% chance that one of the single digits will repeat.

Repeats after Unmatched

Yesterday I looked at repeats after doubles and found that they were quite different than the 40/60 statistic for overall repeats. After a bit of cogitating (I'm a bit slow...), I realized that the implication was that repeats after unmatched was also going to be different from 40/60.

Indeed, that is what I found. Following an unmatched number (whether the next number is unmatched or double), 66% of games have at least one repeat vs. 54% after doubles. This makes sense, because doubles have one less digit to repeat. In fact, if I had a larger sample of draws to examine I would expect to find that the actual repeat rate after doubles is 50%.

The breakdown is:

After Unmatched
0 digits repeat 34%
1 digit repeats 45%
2 digits repeat 19%
3 digits repeat 2%

After Double
0 digits repeat 46%
1 digit repeats 46%
2 digits repeat 8%

So, especially after Unmatched, look for the repeaters. If there haven't been any (or many) in the few previous games, then look for a pair to repeat.

Hope this information is useful to someone. :)
