re: QPs
Here's a blurb I posted a few years ago about the subject:
NIX QUICK PICKS
Quick Picks are used by people who want to be in the action without putting any effort into winning. When you read articles about jackpot winners, it appears as though they all used either Quick Picks, birth dates or their children's ages. The vast majority of people do play that way. If the majority of tickets sold are Quick Picks, then it makes sense that the majority of jackpots won should be won with Quick Picks.
However, when I saw the actual statistics, I found that you have a better chance of winning by picking numbers randomly out of a hat than by using Quick Picks.

Aside from saying that ppl are basically lazy

what she's implying here is the programs that are used by the lotto corps to produce quick picks are not necessarily true random generators. There have been discussions bfr about if such a thing as a true rng can be programmed, but that is another topic, the jury is still out on that score I think.
And IF (a big if) the lotto-corps are rigging their QP machines to produce more winners then aren't they really cutting into their own profits? ... let's face it, the bottom line for them is to make more and more $$, in-line with the goals of any a worthy corporation, no?
I have not seen any actual stats (proportional) on wheter QPs provide more JP winners, not sure if they're even available to the unwashed public. So far I came across only guesses and speculations. I do think that far more tickets are sold as quick picks compared to other ways of selecting numbers, so it would make sense that there are more winners in the QP theater.
It would be better to see stats on wins relative to the way lottery buyers select their numbers, which would make this discussion much more meaningful.
Cheers
PS here's another thought: if random is the worst we can do why not try something else?
