Progression plan and Pick 3 Odds

Hi,

I am working on a live Pick 3 simulation using a progression, but I found it a little hard in finding the exact odds for this game.
I have a small question:
What are the odds when I want to wheel 5 numbers with 1 keynumber boxed?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bob,

There are 220 possible boxed combinations: 120 unmatched, 90 doubles and 10 triples. Unmatched combinations will show up 72% of the time.

You don't say if your key is one of the 5 or if you want to use 5 numbers PLUS a key.

For 5 numbers plus a key you would have 10 possible pairs of your 5 numbers to combine with your key number, for 10 unmatched combinations, or 15 if you want to double your 5 numbers, plus another 5 if you want to double your key number.

Or, if your key number is one of the 5 numbers then 4 numbers give you 6 possible pairs to combine with your key number for 6 unmatched combinations. More If you want the doubles.

So, for unmatched I believe your odds would be (10/120)*0.72 = 1 in 16.7 for 5 numbers plus a key or, for 5 numbers including the key, (6/120)*0.72 = 1 in 27.8.

Good luck!

Thanks Icewynd,

Yes, my intention was to know what the odds were for 5 numbers PLUS another Keynumber.
It seems the hardest part in this game is to benefit from it, knowing it has a poor return.

Wheeling 5 numbers around another keynumber costs 10 tickets.
The odds are 1 in 16.7
The return on a win pays 8:1

One would need to be very lucky to make profit.

Yes, your ability to select numbers for play would be important, especially the selection of the key number.

I think you would need to stay tuned to the trends and patterns of the game. If you divide your numbers into halves using various schemes (Hi/Lo, Odd/Even, In/Out, Hot/Cold) you will find that about 25% of the winning numbers only use half of the set and that more than half the time the same group of 5 numbers will hit within 3 games.

Good luck!
