Power in Numbers

Good Morning All. Unsure if this is an acceptable way to express my dissatisifaction with the recent increase in the cost of a 649 ticket. I did send my opinion to the cooperation and I received a response indicating that 'surveys' did indicate this increase was 'welcomed' based on larger prize payouts. Since the beginning of the lottery and based on personal income, I have been an active participant. As my income changed, so did my buying power. Until the most recent price change, I had decreased my ticket purchases to five lines plus tag twice a week, totalling $12 weekly. Just recently, I have become one of Canada's retired people and my income will not allow me to continue playing or supporting these games. I enjoyed playing the lottery, I felt good that communities were also benefiting from sales and like everyone, I do have that being financially independent dream. I am totally dissatisified with the new increase and sincerely doubt survey responses. I am proud to say that I am among the millions who have, as a result of the price hike, abstained from participating. I'm new to computer technology, but I think we, the baby-boomers, do have enough power to make the lottery co-operation rethink some of their recent decisions. Is there anyone out there that would support a one-dollar draw with a million dollar payout? A cool million would do it for me....... Have a Great Day all.

Baby:

You do have a something like that already on the east coast called Atlantic 49. Its $1 for 2 lines played. Largest prize is $1M.

You are right on the money regarding 6/49:agree:.

Regards,
George:)

I don't believe for a second that the price increase was a result of a desire for higher jackpots. This was simply a greedy cash grab to fund an executive board salary increase where just about all the the shirts at the OLGC as well as the guys changing the toilet paper rolls are making well in excess $100,000 a year. The scheme did not take into account that the Canadian population of baby boomers are reaching retirement age when cash flow diminishes, thus less disposable income to purchase their tickets. When interviewed on CFRB an OLGC shirt said it was necessary to help fund the hospitals and people HAD to buy tickets to make the lottery work so the funding can continue....Damnit , how much more do they need? I'm paying 750.00 a year in a new Ontario tax for healthcare, and part of the gas tax over 80 cents a litre is to go to purchasing healthcare equipment. This is in addition to what we were already paying through income tax.(It's time for an inquiry as to where all this money really goes, write to your MPs and demand answers as well as op/ed columns of newspapers...raise questions noone wants to talk about.)
It's obvious that many people are not falling for this BS lottery......sales are in the toilet, and you may have noticed increased radio and TV ads pushing $1 and $2 scratch tickets as an alternative for those that have stopped buying 649 .... and then there's the daily print ads along with printed lottery syndicate forms to play as a group. I spoke with my local retailer about it and he said sales are down but the OLGC sent memos that all would be OK in 6 months when the furor of the increase dies down. Personally , I'll continue to post picks on this site, but I'll only spend money on it after it rolls over 4 times. My hard earned money will be played when the chance of winning 200.00+ for four numbers is at its optimum and not before. The Provincial lotteries at 50 cents a pop is the place to spend your dollars waiting for the rollovers. Obviously many are doing the same and Wed. draws are feeling it the most.
This morning I downloaded a Freedom of Information form and filled it out as such: I request all information pertaining to the recent increase of the 649 Lottery, including , but not limited to surveys, polls, questionaires and reports as well as salary figures for executive board members at the OLGC in regards to reported public desire to raise the price of a ticket to $2.00 to produce larger jackpots. Might be $5.00 well spent. I'll keep you all posted .

Here's what I have learned from my inquiry to the Freedom of Information office regarding "all information pertaining to the recent increase of the 6/49 lottery(national lottery) including but not limited to surveys and reports, polls and questionaires in regards for public desire to raise the price of the lottery."
First, I received a call from the Freedom of Information Office. The Coordinator told me I would have to contact the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation for the information I was seeking. She also told me that this would be futile since the ILC was NOT bound by the FOI Act and they were not forthcoming with such information as been her past experience dealing with them. She enclosed a Salary Disclosure List whiich is available online at OLGC.ca/Corporate/MediaCentre/Fact Sheets/OLGC Salary Disclosure. The polling was conducted by I assume IPSOS as they are contracted by all lottery commissions to do their research. As I expected, these people are like a secret society who answer to nobody.:dang:

Good Evening Karnac. Thank you for your prompt reply re seeking salary information on lottery personnel, as a follow-up to my thread "power in numbers". To find out these guys are not bound nor covered by the normal rules and regulations for such a search is not exactly a total surprise. Although I had heard a similar statement sometime ago, I was not too sure of the source. I guess I can put that doubt to bed. It's sad to hear that the Lottery Corporation is expecting this little "revolt" to the increase in the cost of 649 plays to peter-out within six months. Unfortunately, their prediction will probably be true. As for me, I will not purchase another 649 ticket while the price remains at $2. Neither have I contributed to the sales of scratch tickets, which has increased and is offsetting revenue losses from 649 plays. Thanks again for your attempt at getting information relavent to our belief that this price increase was a result of greed and certainly not based on public suryeys.
