We are fine. Thank you for your concern. We do keep praying for those that have lost homes or loved ones in this fire.

yup, glad ya ok CalifDude, everyone I know is fine...one friend lost his citrus & avocado orchard, but his fence & house was only scorched a bit, so he got lucky...but neighbors all around and the nearby church got burned to the ground.

it still boggles my mind that with all the hi-tech manpower, so much was lost, AGAIN! negligence & red tape are destroying property or even taking peoples' lives.

California needs an elite fire fighting squad, equivalent to the Navy Seals or Green Berets heh! Perhaps operating under the National Guard...and then could be deployed ASAP with absolutely no pussyfooting around, and with all the proper tools to do the job.

another thing I don't understand is all the whining about it being too windy to fly the firefighting choppers & planes. uh, NOAA flies planes directly INTO HURRICANES to measure wind speed and pressure and all. where are these top notch pilots when we need 'em? even if they were paid say $10k per hour or whatever, what a bargain! something has to be done to prevent these wildfire disasters.

There is a HUGE difference between flying into a hurricane and flying sage brush topping to drop retardant! You would NEVER get one of those hurricane hunter pilots to fly firefighting planes at any price!!

The winds were too high for the aircraft to fly, but we should have gotten them here earlier. When I drove around yesterday and today looking at damage, I did not see any burned homes (didn't get off the main streets to look), but I did see a lot of BIG trees that were uprooted and/or split and laying on houses or yards. The winds were a very big problem. When you fly as low as they do, even updrafts from the fire itself can cause trouble. In fact, I witnessed (when I was a teenager) a firefighting plane crash and kill the pilot. He flew low over a hill and the updraft on the other side caught his wing and the plane's wingtip hit the ground and the plane crashed. Terrible sight and I will never forget it.

jeeez! true unpredictable...still seems silly that they have to manually go in so low to drop...why not get all the firefighters out of the area, then drop retardant bombs which explode at the proper altitude to disperse? I mean imagine all the laser guided bombs bein pissed away overseas...why not put that technology to better use here savin people rather than kill 'em.

or maybe a huge bomb like the russian mother of all conventional bombs...atomized fuel which sucks ALL the oxgen out of the area...seems like that'd seriously choke a fire...or heck even napalm might do the same thing quick burn all the brush in one shot...I wonder if that'd burn things so thoroughly that there wouldn't be embers.

If they drop the water or retardant too high it is ineffective.

A "bomb" would just spread the embers and make the fire even worse.

hiya, yup no kidding, was a bummer seein water drops which immediately evaporated over the fires! they should jsut roll out giant water ballons:thumb:

yup, atomized gas bomb would only be suitable in truly remote areas, they could probably get the ratio right to mainly burn the oxygen in the air rather than blowin embers off the ground.

anyway, I hope some mad scientists are workin on somethin to help prevent the wildfire nonsense.
