Lotto ticket worth $15M unclaimed
CALGARY -- Someone in Alberta may be sitting on a $15-million fortune and not even know it, lottery officials say.
Lottery players are being reminded to check their tickets after half of the June 7 $29.8-million Lotto 6/49 draw remains unclaimed, Western Canada Lottery Corp. spokeswoman Kathleen Polyak said.
"Lottery winners have a year from the draw date to claim their prizes, and most claim within the first two weeks," said Polyak today. "It's a little surprising that the $14.9 million prize is still outstanding, and we certainly recommend that Albertans check the winning numbers for any tickets that they have tucked away."
Polyak said the ticket was sold somewhere in the province other than Edmonton and Calgary. The winning numbers for the draw were 11, 12, 14, 27, 34 and 48. The other half of the prize was claimed in Nova Scotia shortly after the draw.
If the prize is not collected by June 7, 2007, the $14.9-million prize will be returned to players in future bonus or promotional draws. In the event the winning ticket was bought by a single person, it would be the largest prize won by a sole player in Alberta lottery history. "Whether it's a free play, $10, or $14.9 million, we want our winners to collect their prizes," Polyak said. "It's their money."
The largest Alberta prize to go uncollected was $4.3 million in 1988.
