VANCOUVER - A small group of unionized employees at the B.C. Lottery Corporation have voted in favour of strike action to back their demands for a first contract.

The 17 workers distribute lottery tickets and supplies across the province from the BCLC's warehouse in Richmond.

B.C. Government and Service Employees Union president George Heyman says the Crown corporation is forecasting a profit of more than $720 million this year – and can afford the workers' demands.

"We're not asking for the world. We're just asking for a fair agreement.

"I'm hopeful that the lottery corporation with all of its profits and its size will recognize that what we're asking for is not unreasonable," he says.

Heyman says it's in the corporation's best interest to reach an agreement with the workers, as a first step in establishing a good labour relations climate.

The workers won the right to BCGEU representation last fall following a long battle.

Thanks to B.C.Lottery Corporation
