Lightning vs. Lottery?

I have often heard people say that the odds of winning the lottery are similar to the odd of being hit by lightning. But indeed it is far, far easier to be hit by lightning!

In Canada the odds of being hit by lightning in a given year are about 1 in 250,000, and in your lifetime about 1 in 5,000. Your odds of being killed by lightning are 1 in 3,300,000.

Oddly enough, men have an 86% higher chance of being hit by lightning (job hazards, recreational choices), so be careful out there!

BTW, it is much more likely that you will date a supermodel than be hit by lightning -- only 1 in 89,000 odds there!
Of course winning the lottery would probably lower the supermodel odds considerably!

Let's hope the lottery stikes us before the lightning does

hiya Icewynd, funny...yup it'd be quite easy to get struck by lightning...of courseya would have to go to a region in which thunderstorms are common...where I live they are extremely rare.

I've also heard that people usin carbon fishing poles can make good targets for lightning strikes heh!

All that being said, I'll still:
1) not spend time in open fields, during thunderstorms and
2) continue to buy tickets.

oh yeah, I just remembered some of the best type o lightning horror stories.

if there are wild thunderstorms outside, good idea to keep away from the plumbing...I've heard people can get zapped as lightning hits exposed pipes outside.

likewise I'd pass on the soopermodulls too...and not just cuz I'm married I'm not attracted to skinny golddiggin tweaker chicks who'd just throw up a good meal anyway ha!
