From what I know, they use balls. They showed the machine on TV last time the jp was up to $30M+ (it was either on CTV or CBC, can't remember). The balls are white with black outlines. The 649 balls are multicolored -- they make the machine look like one big huge gumball dispenser

Most games use the balls. The balls keep the games naturally random. The only game I know of that uses computer generated numbers is TAG.
From what I know, they have the one draw only unless there's a power outage or the machine breaks down. This is what I gathered from a lotto rep I spoke to a year ago. Most of what he knew was what was supplied on Canadian lottery websites. He did tell me that there is tight security around the machine(s) during the draw, and that it's good you know the phone number of your local police and use the words "restraining order" to past peers/Xs if ever you win the jackpot.
