great ideas for playing Ontario lotto6/49

I have heard that Ontario lottery uses computerized instead of rubber ball systems. What is the chance of hitting the jackpot if at all? and are there any suggestions of how to win?

Welcome to the discussion forums Martin.
I have also heard that a computerized system is used for Ontario's 6/49. The odds of winning this lottery's jackpot is the same as any 6 out of 49 lottery .. exactly 1 in 13,983,816 and yes it can be won. The last jackpot prize win occurred on the August 25/99 draw. There are many tips posted on this bulletin board and the web site regarding lottery play ie playing short term trends, betting the numbers with wheels etc. All of these strategies can be applied to the Ontario 649.

Ontario 49 ideas

Hi Ontario 49 Fans,

I absolutely love the Ontario 49 because it is 50 cents and a million would be plenty enough for me!

I played a sheet on Wednesday May 30/07 and it cost me $5 - I got 4 numbers in one line and 3 numbers in 3 of the other lines and won a total of $65.

I'm so convinced I will hit the jackpot - hopefully soon and not when I've got one foot in the grave!

What I do is form 3 'groupings' with my numbers. I take the current draw plus the previous 6 (including the bonus always). All the numbers that are missing from the 1-49 go in the first column - that is my cold column. Then I take all the numbers that have played once - that is my second column or 'played once' column. Then I take all the numbers that have played more than once and that becomes my third column or 'played more than once' column.

One of the mathemeticians in another thread checked something for me - I asked if it was safe to say that 50% of the drawn numbers come from the previous 6 draws when including the bonus. He checked it and came back with over 30% of the time...good enough for me.

So what I usually do is pick 3 or 4 from the col#2 (played-once-column), 1 or 2 from the col#1 (cold column) and 1 or 2 from the col#3 (played-more-than-once column).

But, there's a couple of other things I consider:

- If there is a really cold number I will focus on that one (say it hasn't played in 25 draws or more...less if it is a 'frequently-played-number')

- If the length of the col#1 (cold column) is almost the same as the length of col#2 (played-once-column), then I'll play 3 from col#1 and 3 from col#2.

- If there is an unusual number of numbers in col#1 I'll play some lines with 4 or even 5 from col#1 -

- When I have to narrow things down - since the point is to get richer not poorer - I will look at the frequency of the numbers in olgc.ca's frequency charts - I actually take the frequency of the number from both the regular number column and bonus column - add them together in a spreadsheet and then sort them. I think it is always important to consider the bonus number when looking at frequency or the 'cold-ness' of a number. For example some would say the number '49' hasn't played for 15 draws but in fact it played bonus on Wednesday. But then I would consider if it is a good 'repeat' - but since it is low on the 'frequency' chart it probably isn't. See what I mean?

- I think the 'frequency' of the number is important to consider when choosing your 'cold' numbers to play - like a cold '3', '8', or '15' in Ontario 49 isn't the same as a cold '47' to me.

What do you think?
Feedback would be great

Combinations in Ontario 49

Forgot to add something !

Combination play in Ontario 49 is sooooo worth it.
A combination 5 is $22 (versus combination 5 for 6/49 being $88)
A combination 7 is $3.5 (versus $14 in 6/49)
A combination 8 is $14 (versus $56 in 6/49)
and a combination 9 - is $42 as opposed to $168 in 6/49.

I like playing the Ontario 49 combinations especially when there are alot of really cold numbers, but this draw there are 29 numbers in what I call my 'played-once' column ie played once in the last 6 draws including last draw (7 draws really).

I include the bonus - so it is really (7x7=49) 49 numbers I'm looking at.

I'm going to take the first 20 in the list below of my COL#2. That gives me:
47,27,33,37,2,18,29,46,9,26,12,40,21,28,42,45,44,38,31,17.

I will use La Joll's C(20,6,2) <=16 wheel:

1 4 5 6 8 13
4 5 6 9 11 16
1 7 10 11 12 16
2 4 5 12 14 17
8 9 10 13 15 17
2 6 9 10 14 18
4 5 7 14 15 18
1 2 3 11 15 19
3 13 14 15 16 19
3 6 7 9 17 19
3 8 12 13 18 19
1 8 11 13 14 20
1 6 9 12 15 20
2 7 8 13 16 20
1 11 16 17 18 20
3 4 5 10 19 20

Which will cost 8 bucks.
I will then mix up my list one more time and re-do the wheel for a total of $16... I'll let you know what happens.

nobody has won in 9 years!!!

wow

you'd think the jackpot would go up after that long :p

Hey,

If you look up 'Winners' on the www.olgc.ca site there is a recent Ontario 49 winner...

from olgc.ca:
"EVERYONE WILL BE DEBT FREE!
LONDON WOMAN IS ONTARIO 49'S LATEST MILLIONAIRE

Dorothy F. Williams of London was having her morning coffee and reading the newspaper, when she checked the winning ONTARIO 49 numbers and realized she had won the $1 MILLION Jackpot prize from the Sept. 2 draw.
"

The jackpot never goes up for Ontario 49 - it is always a million dollars.

The odds are exactly the same as the 6/49 the reason no one wins very often because not as many people play.

I think most people don't realize what a good deal it is - same odds as 6/49 yet 50 cents for a shot at a million. You can inexpensively wheel and play combination sheets.

For example the last draw:
May 30th draw for 6/49:
for 3/6 category there were 349,138 winners

May 30th draw for Ontario 49:
for 3/6 category there were 11,673 winners
They don't advertise the Ontario 49 as much... I love it, I'me afraid it will go the way of 'Winner-Take-All' and be discontinued at some point.

Also, think of it 6/49 costs 4 times as much as Ontario 49 yet for the 3/6 prize 6/49 is only twice as much as Ontario 49 ($10 vs $5).

The 5/6+bonus prize is fixed at $50,000 (shared) - if you win it you're not likely to share it since not many people play.

If you are interested in trying it out check my other post about my picks...and good luck!

My picks for Ontario 49 June 9th

I know random is random... but I'm going with the averages from the last 50 draws... want to get the most out of my lottery money... I'm probably going to buy 40 Ontario 49 tickets... my favorite draw because it is 50 cents and a million, oh ya that's fine by me.:dance1:

  1. For this draw I will play most tickets using 3 numbers from col#1 (Cold) and three numbers from col#2 (played once)
  2. Numbers from the previous draw are italicised.
  3. Since no repeats played last draw if I use a repeat in a couple of tickets I'll use 19 or 45
  4. I will also try to make sure I have at least 2 even or 2 odd numbers in each ticket, mostly though I will try to have 3 odd and 3 even in each ticket.
  5. When I'm picking my numbers from col#2 I pick them so that 1 may have come from the last draw and 1 from the draw before that, and so on.
  6. I'm going to make my tickets have two numbers from 0-10 and two numbers from 21-30 and for numbers that come between 31-40 I'm going to include zero or one of those (because 4 of them just played June 2nd.
  7. Then I'll be crossing my fingers - because well, random is random and that is the only thing you can count on - you can only try to go with the averages, your gut, your lucky numbers. Lots of luck to you!

last nights numbers had 2 repeats from the previous draw. rarely heppans for ont 49, but few occasional occurences for 6/49 and once, 3 numbers repeated, from 649.

figuring out 3 or 4 sets of numbers certainly is lot better than all 6

The last jackpot prize win occurred on the August 25/99 draw.
Martin asked the question in Jan, that means there were just 4 or 5 months without a JP winner.

I wonder why this was Martin's first and last question at this forum....

I heard or read somewhere players like games where is small possibility of sharing a JP… many are opposite though…where applicable… :D
