GAME PLAY SIMULATOR, just "ODDS", not "SYSTEMS" ???

Hi There,

I've enjoyed browsing these threads which have been very informative.

I am writing in the hope any of you might be able to help me.

i am looking for a a programme (pref share/free/trial!!!!!!) which would address a curiosity I have.

I now know the odds for a "6 in 49" game, such as the UK, where the drum holds 49 numbered balls and players pick 6 they hope will be drawn. (There is also a bonus, but I'm not interested in complicating it with that.)

I started trying to work out what the odds would be if either value was changed ie "5 from 49" or "6 from 50".

I very much enjoyed John 77's page which gives certain game odds and led me here.

I also found this great calcuator here,

http://www.alllotto.com/lottery_odds_calculator.php

which maybe some of you have seen, which I guess would answer the question I have. However it is not as good as John's calculations gives as it only gives "odds", which appear to be rouned to a full digit, which to my eyes based on 6/49 appear randomly rounded up OR down.

Ideally, what I would love to find is a programme that I could enter information i.e 6 (Pick) from 49 (Drum), which then makes a calculation.

Ideally this programme could give a variety of information

- Total number of each Pick All, Pick - 1 correct , Pick - 2 correct, O correct, etc combinations.
- The odds / probability to a decimal place

also - and I'm being hopeful here - it could perhaps do other things, such as then give the number of winners and losers in a given draw size. For example The UK National Lottery has 65 million plays each week, so it could also work out if there were 65 million entries the actual number of each of the 6ball 5ball 4ball 3ball 2ball 1ball and 0ball matching entries there would be. (agin I ignore bonus for simplicity)

I'm not interested - yet anyway - about "wheels" and "systems", just in playing with how any game would be play out, dependent on the pick, drum and number of players.

Does anyone have any ideas ?

I thought there might be some sort of spreadhseet or excel template but I don't know what term to look under.

If there is nothing free, does anyone recomeend a cheap programme I can buy in a store ?

If you have read THANKS !!!!!
If you have any ideas or suggestions THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I don't think is exactly what you are looking for, but one of Saliu's programs named formula (Now superformula) does something like that!

Emily -

Most of the information you requested can be found on my site in other games of the same format if you dig deep enough, and thank you very much for the kind words. The only information you request that is not there are the expected winners as a function of the number of plays, and that's a simple calculation - plays divided by total chances - to establish a ratio by which all possibilities can be multiplied.

I use a spreadsheet to create the information which appears on my page with variables such as you mention. I'm set up for regular lotteries. lotteries with bonus numbers and lotteries with 1 bonus number drawn from a second source, all with draws of from 2 to 7 balls from a variable number of possibilities. The main consideration I had when I created it was to establish game payout percentages, which appear on site and have cells for the appropriate entries and the formulas to make the calculations. It is not commercially available nor do I have any plans to make it so.

The game which jumps out here as not being included is the EuroMillions game, which uses 2 bonus numbers from 9 drawn from a second source. I don't know whether I'll ever be set up to do so, since those conditions are unique to this game as far as I know. The odds and possibilities were calculated by building two tables and multiplying all possible combinations from them.

Hi System, Thornc and John,

thanks very much for your helpful replies.

I got the "wheels on line' programme which is great as it gives a probability to a decimal point. (Has anyone got a link for the other programme ?)

With the "wheels on line programme" then I set my 'total in drum' and my 'number drawn', then work downwards, ie all6 only5 only4 only3 only2 only1 0.

thats my 'chances'. (is that also my probability ?)

Then I have a table like Johns.

Then there is the next bit I want to put in a table.

Re working out the winners, but also the losers, for a game I divide the number of tickets bought (which would be the same for all of the 'winners ' and all of the 'losers' )by the number of chances ?

if i can get the 'odds' from the wheel on line program, is it complicated to make a spreadsheet . I have works and can get excel.

Again THANKS for the advice !!!!!!!!!!!!
(Any more interesting progams welcome !)

In the spreadsheet, take a cell beneath the total possibilities and add the cells with the number of possibilities that are winners. If you want odds of getting a winning ticket, divide the number of total possibilities by this number. You'll have to do this with each game, as that number is dependent on which of the possibilities can win.

Hi,

Thanks for all your help with my question.

Just want to say if anyone has not tried "Lottery Assistant" it is really good. It answered a lot of questions I had about what happens if instead of 6/49 you went to 6/48 or 6/50 or even 5/49.

You can get it here and it is free to use for 14 days.

http://www.infinitetechnologies.co.za/software/la/

It is much better than the alllotto program, but you have to download it rather than access online.

JALP!

Just came up with that one.... or better: YALT!

There are literally dozens (probably hundreds) of lotto programs out there!
Almost all promise the same and deliver almost nothing!!

calculations

Emily to calculate the odds for any lottery a simple sum can be used eg for 6/49 :

49x48x47x46x45x44 divided by 1x2x3x4x5x6

For a 5/34 :

34x33x32x31x30 divided by 1x2x3x4x5

you just modify it depending on the draw size,

vous compris!!

Tim.
