RCMP Warning of E-mail Scams
June 3, 2005

Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP are warning people about e-mail scams after one man lost thousands of dollars. Constable Sean Reynolds says the man was told he won 2 million dollars but had to deposit a cheque to cover certain costs. Reynolds says there isn't much hope the money will be recovered

RE: SCAMS...

Don't know if Canada uses ...PAYPAL...for paying online bills but there is one scam running rampant in the US. It comes as a legit looking "Alert" Your PayPal account needs updating, etc., The link sends you to a very clean looking site and wants you to update your personal information. If you do use PayPal...go directly to that website via your own links not the one foisted. I went to the false link with help from FBI as a tail with false info dictated by the FEDS and I will assume that the dumbbutts are getting a ticket to Sing-Sing (prison!
If your e-mail doesn't look right or seems to have a smell---use a backdoor to check it out or just dump it!

RE: SCAMS...

Hello and am back again with a followup on PayPal scams. I forgot to add that if you want to check on your account you use this link...SPOOF@PayPal... This is a totally secure area and what you do is tell the people what you suspect and within a couple days they will return you with an answer and will tell you what they are doing too. They will make a recommendation as to what you should do concerning your account at least that is what they did for me and I assume that is the normal practice.

Paypal

Teuf ...

Paypal is all over the world - they own E-Bay. I use them and recommend them as you don't need to give your Credit Card details to all and sundry. For my own website hosting I just pay some money in from Paypal even though I trust them.

As for anyone checking or asking for information on the internet ignore them. I don't mind having a look at what is new so I'm a bit lenient on one computer in letting in some spam. The porn industry has and probably will always have the latest innovations. I am amazed at the quality and clarity of the illustrated content which loads so extremely fast. In your case you went the extra distance and became pro-active in reigning them in. That is all that happens - they could well be using your computer, unbeknown to you in aiding the dissemination of their material.

Use a good virus detector - Nod32 is what I use. It's what the professional virus eradicators use, use a firewall, use Microsoft Spyware Detector and close your browser if you are not using it.
