Does anyone track this information

I am wondering if anyone tracks the number of winners and prize amounts as illustrated here .

I haven't really discovered anything that is really useful. Except these things:

It seems that box payouts are highest with double numbers.

It seems the highest straight payouts occur with singles.

And the lowest payouts are with doubles and triples.

My next question would be, is this data useful? (Note: I can only seem to find this information for ontario pick3, which makes generic software that is capable of storing pick 3 data from other lotteries more difficult.)

I guess another thing that the data would be useful for would be to filter out numbers that have a lot of winners as the payouts would be smaller.

RE: Information on tracking

Hello fenris,
here in Ohio, pick 3 and pick 4 wheeled any number and position; pays the highest and...any straight single digits pay the same. Box payouts are the next highest in payouts. Straight payouts are the same as straight single digits. As per info...it's handy to know at the ticket counter...when you win and appear to come up short on the winnings in hand. Other than what you and I have revealed together Ican't see much usage being made unless I were a comptroller of finance either for the state gaming commission or a bookie!

not sure it is useful :dang:

Common combos/patterns are going to pay less, the 123's 000's 999's 649's 911's 411's for example but something is better than nothing.

I think payout data is irrelevant.

Thanks for the replies. The reason I asked is that I am in the process of creating a program based on the new .NET framework so that I can become more familar with it and build something that will help me explore some of my ideas a little easier.

The idea for the program was for it to be in two parts. The main part is the data collection and storage part. Basically it downloads the numbers from the web automatically and stores them to a database (allowing for easy retrieval and sorting).

I have a working version of this (that is rather rudimentary) for the Ontario pick3. The neat thing about the main part of the program is that it accepts plugins. That is, software modules that are independent of the main program that are used to analyze the draw data (in any way imaginable).

These plugins can be developed by any one and written in any of the .net languages. Once I have completed the main part of the program so that it is flexible enough to retrieve and store data from any pick 3 lottery, I am thinking that I will release the program as open source (possible exclusive to these forums as I really like the posts that I have read here and there are a lot of intelligent people here).

Anyway, what does everyone think? Also keep in mind that this is a spare time project for me and thus may not move very quickly.
