Peter,

Except for 10 values, I agree with your data but I do not fully agree with your conclusion.

If you look at the sum of deltas, you get the following distribution:

0 draw or 0.0% with a sum of deltas less than 8
12 draws or 0.5% with a sum of deltas between 8 and 14
82 draws or 3.7% with a sum of deltas between 15 and 21
294 draws or 13.3% with a sum of deltas between 22 and 28
560 draws or 25.4% with a sum of deltas between 29 and 35
802 draws or 36.4% with a sum of deltas between 36 and 42
453 draws or 20.6% with a sum of deltas between 43 and 49

With 462 deltas (or nearly 21%) being 20 or over, you may need about one fairly high delta per draw.

Sum of deltas

And the easy way to determine the sum of deltas for a combination, substract the lowest number from the highest one and you have your answer.

The sum for 10, 15, 22, 34, 41 and 42 is 32 (as all combinations starting with 10 and ending with 42).
The sum for 1, 15, 22, 34, 41 and 49 is 48 (as all combinations starting with 1 and ending with 49).

An intriguing chart - thanks, PAB.

The number of possibilities in a 4/47 matrix is 178,365, the same as the number of possibilities in 6/49, delta 48. The only low number possible in a delta 48 draw is 1.

The number of possibilities in a 4/46 matrix is 163,185. There are two low numbers possible in 6/49, delta 47, 1 and 2. Multiplying 163,185 x 2 gives you the total number of possibilities for 6/49, delta 47, or 326,370.

This short way of calculation remains consistent throughout PAB's chart. Neat.
