CA Daily3 pari-mutuel

$204 for a 789 straight? are you kidding?!?

California lottery sometimes has extremely poor pari-mutuel payouts, here is their poster-child of turning people off from playing the game:
http://www.calottery.com/Games/DailyThree/WinningNumbers/default.htm?DrawNum=9562

Change the laws, allow fixed prize amounts! A winning straight bet should pay $500 to $600 you misers!

While you are at it, remove the iron-fisted monopoly strangle-hold that "education" has on the lottery! You passed over lottery money to them like suckers, and they built a single damn highschool well in excess of $FIVE-HUNDRED-MILLION! Yes, they blew well over half of the $ONE-BILLION annual lottery revenue on one stupid fluff project.

Yeah, here in Ontario we have pari-mutuel Pick3 prizes, usually they are pretty crappy, but yesterday was $706.80 for 082 straight. The zero had been out for a while, so I guess everyone had given up on it, cause there were only 36 winners. 'Course, you probably pay $0.50 for a ticket whereas they ding us $1.

Sounds like every jurisdiction hates the way their lottos are run. Lotsa posts around the web complaining about private ownership in Britain and how they fix the games. They 'fix' them here too, 50% right off the top is the price of admission.

Keep your cool, my friend! :tylenol:

hiya Icewynd, nope...California lottery only allows $1 per bet on their Daily3 pick3 lottery...however they do allow "straight/box" split bet for $1, which is what I usually play.

yes you are right, sometimes pari-mutuel can workout very favorably...however, on the flipside it can be horrendous as illustrated by today's example. I've hit low payouts before, such fleeting joy to only win chump change.

admission fee is right...the whole premise of lottery is to generate revenue for what is supposed to be a good cause. I understand that.

however, I think California lottery is shooting itself in the foot. They need to modernize, allow online play, offer fixed payouts, which would be incentive to attract more players, and entice people to play on a more regular basis...even offer 50cent, or 25cent bets.

CA lottery is just treading water with their old business model...they need to compete toe to toe with the numerous native American indian casino ops...and Las Vegas is just a short hop away from me...in casinos the government doesn't snatch a fat portion of the odds I beat...oh and free drinks from a cute cocktail waitress, that'll work :)

cheers!

Hey Blitzed,

Maybe you should send in your CV...:teach: That would straighten things out!!!

I agree, lots of competition, now your guv'mint is looking at legalizing online gambling. Money goes to where it is treated best (at least my money does!)

hiya, ashame though, government would likely manage to muck things up...if online gambling is made legal here, aside from income taxes, I imagine they'd get greedy and tack on an outlandish sin-tax:burnt:

HI BLITZED, AS YOU KNOW I USED TO LIVE CA WHEN I WAS THERE I WOULD WIN ON TRIPS ALOT AND AND THINKING I'M GOING TO GET A NICE PAYOUT AND WHEN THE CLERK HANDED ME $200 I WAS LIKE THATS ALL. I MISS CA BUT NOT THE LOTTERY PAYOUTS. HERE IN NYC I GET $500 ON A P3 STRAIGHT. IN YOUR CASE YOU WOULD HAVE TO PLAY THAT NUMBER MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET A DECENT AMOUNT OF PAYOUT
GOOD LUCK,

RALLY

I can $250 on a 50 straight bet
or $500 on a 1.00 bet

Unfortunately, in order for a lottery to even be established in California, the powers that were, at the time, wanted the state's cut to be guaranteed at 50% of the take, hence the parimutuel payouts on all games. Don't look for it to change in the immediate future.

And, just as a note, some states, and I believe Kentucky to be one of them, pay out 60%, not the usual 50%, on their Pick 3 and Pick 4 games.

hiya johnph77, bummer that your site is down.

unfortunate the way CA is setup...yes, I was always envious of the excellent KY daily games...if I ever have to move to another state, it has been on my list:tuut:
